I'm looking into my first serious safe, and I'm leaning heavily towards the Cannon Patriot Series P-22.

The safe is going to go in the garage, because my home just doesn't have room for anything of considerable size, and I'm told that storing valuables in your bedroom is a predictable move that thieves would love to exploit. I also plan on hiding the safe in the garage by stacking some old cabinets in front of it. Discretion is a big part of this decision.

Does anyone have any experience with the safe itself? It would be for a few electronic valuables, some jewelry, up to four long-guns, and my handguns while I'm traveling.

Thanks.

Most gun safes are created fairly equal. Regardless of which ones you are looking at, the Cannon is probably equally as good as the Liberty, Browning, Granite (Red Head, Winchester), Champion, etc.....

Keep in mind that a gun safe is not actually a "safe", so don't count on it if you are storing valuable electronics or jewelry. Also be aware that the "fire rating" on a gun safe is not enough to protect photos, computer disks, cds, video tapes, etc.

When comparing gun safes, look at the steel thickness and the fireproofing.
The thicker the steel, the better, as well as the amount of fireproofing.

Right now, I think the AMSEC BF series is one of the best buys in the gun safe market. They use a 1/2" steel plate door with an injected composite construction. This gives the BF series far better burglary protection, as well as superior seemless fire resistance.
