Extreme Shock ammo has changed its tune

So like many of you on the board I was familiar with "Extreme Shock Ammo" and their over the top "anti-terrorism" marketing. Every time I saw it in stores I laughed at it both due to it being very expensive and the marketing campaign.

Well, this past Sunday I heard an interview with Extreme Shocks President and he explained that they are re-branding themselves in a more serious light. The interview was on Armed American Radio with Mark Walters, a program I generally respect. So that lends some credibility to the re-branding. If you visit the extreme shock website http://extremeshockusa.net/ it does seemed to have been toned down quite a bit.

However in the interview the president does claim to be able to hunt 400lb wild hogs with a .380acp with one shot or a 9mm with one shot, I find both of these far fetched. He also claims that their .50bmg rounds wont exit a watermelon.

All in all Extreme shock ammo is still very expensive and I think I will stick with more mainstream stuff but figured I would at least post about them trying to recover themselves from being the joke of the gun blogs.
 
If you use the right powder metallurgy formulation you could get a .50 bmg to not "exit" a watermelon. Of course you may only have watermelon bits when you're done and you may not have a bullet that will perform very well in an anti-material role.

Whether you can kill with a specific bullet or not is slightly different than whether you can kill promptly or immediately. Keep in mind that plenty of poachers use .22lr to take all sorts of bigger game. They just don't expect it to be dead-right-there when they shoot.

I shot and killed a horse with 1 shot from a .32 ACP a few years ago. The horse died instantly. Like been said, shot placement is everything.
 
As rediculous as Extreme Shock's marketing is, DRT ammo is even worse. I would never buy ammo from either manufacturer based on their marketing that is trying to get me to buy their ammo. :)
 
Those watermelons are deadly! Especially when they are coming towards you! It's good to have ammo to defend against deadly fruit.
 
They can re-brand all they want... every time I hear "extreme shock", for the rest of my life, I will see three ninjas in black ninja suits, surrounded by lighting bolts.
 
You can put lipstick and a skirt on a pig to dress it up, but I don't recommend taking it to the dance. How they pitch it is irrelevant - their products are not demonstrably suitable for any critical use.
 
until it passes my tests, its just another sales pitch, often, off the mainstream ammo is just that, big bucks for average stuff. One company, thats been around awhile is making some bold claims, Hornaday, and, if anything they are being modest. i have been working with some of their ammo recently, impressive doesn't begin to cover it. if i'm going to pay real money for store bought ammo, i'm buying Hornady.

I don't care how they market themselves, it won't convince me pay $2+ per round for their ammo. Unless said ammo has a built in electronic guidance system and creates a 3 meter fragmenting blast radius on impact, its just shootin' bullets. And as long as we are just shootin' bullets, I can't justify the expense.

I'll bet the rebranding includes the word "Tactical" somewhere. Or more like "TaKTicolometer Dihidride"

This stuff is crap, and their marketing campaigns have always appeared to be targeted towards 18-20 year old armchair commandos who won't ever use a gun in a critical situation, and don't care to know anything about the guns they own. This ammo is intended for a target market of folks who just want a nice feel-good slogan attached to their box of ammo.

Extreme Shock was the reason I let my G&A subscription expire. They featured a large spread devoted to the ES factory and regurgitated the same advertising nonsense in glowing terms. Thereafter, whenever they "tested" a new gun, Extreme Shock was always one of the ammo brands used to test for accuracy, etc.

I wrote the editor and pointed out the ridiculousness of all the claims and made-up marketing mumbo jumbo and that they were obviously in the tank for free ammo given that they were always using it in their pistol reviews..no one I knew used ES ammunition and the price put it out of reach for most anyone.

The editor did write back to defend themselves and pointed out that ES was the apex of LE ammo design for America's elite forces. I asked if he could name one government agency, either federal or local, that officially used ES ammunition and did not receive a reply.

I have little respect for the Gun Rags nowadays. They tend to promote who advertises with them. I buy gun guides just to see what is new.
 
I no longer buy ammo since I started reloading, but if they want to be the Monster Cable of ammo and people buy into it I say more power to them and keep up the amusing ads and packaging :)
