Im sure by now we have a seen an ad for these guys somewhere:http://www.extremeshockusa.com/
Imagine my suprise when I opened this months issue of Guns and Ammo magazine, and find them doing a review of Extreme Shock ammo! Imagine my even greater surprise, when they talk about what good stuff it is, and we need to give it a try! Now, from everything I have seen and heard in regards to this stuff, it is pretty universally accepted to be total tacticool hype and outrageuos claims with made-up words like "Nytrillium", and a load of complete horse-puckey.So, now I have to ask, were we all wrong for saying bad things about is ammo without actualy testing it? Are we all crazy and/or ignorant, and the author of the article more honestand intelligent than us, and the ammo's inventor a metalurgical and ballistics genius? Or is this a full color example that proves that those who say the gun rags have almost completely sold out honesty and integrity to sell more ads,are correct? ersonally, unless a fair number of people here buy a bunch of this ammo, test it, then tell us all how great it is,with decent evidence to back it up, I'm going to assume the latter is the case.Anyone else read this article? What do you all think about the ammo, the article, and the selling out of gun writers magazines?

For handguns, I just stick with Ranger T, GoldDot, Golden Sabre, CorBon, etc. Just the less-nonsense mainstream brands of proven hollowpoint ammo.

Then I just go to IDPA and stay in the groove of confidence by getting consistently good hits. I think this matter is far more relevant to the issue than the latest gee-whiz "EXTREME" ammo...

I leave it to my wife to fill the kitchen drawers with "gee-whiz" gadgets that really aren't any better than the simple kitchen tools I've used for years.

The author is Patrick Sweeney. Its on pages 50-53 of the March issue.I'll also add, so as not to misrepresent, it's not like the author RAVES about it, so if I gave that impression, I didnt mean too.And in the end, he does finally say he's not sure he "gets it", and wants to test it out on some critters but the fact that they even reiewed the stuff still tells me something is up, and he does his best to give a very favorable impression of the ammo throughout the article, albeit sometimes in a little bit of a sneaky way IMHO (I think he's trying to appease the advertiser by giving them the "praise piece" they paid for, while not being TOO blatant in praising the stuff,as most readers would probly think the guy was nuts.Still, though....

I sincerely hope Mr. Sweeney only wrote that article to avoid some horrific consequence. I told my wife when I saw that, "When my renewal comes, shred it."

I believe it was Correia or Coronach who pointed out that the real extreme shock must be when your pants explode like that.

See, aside from their RIDICULOUS ad campaign, they want to charge $107.67 for 50 rounds of their .45acp "fang face" fragmenting rounds. That's $2.15 a shot... $2.15. Now, let's look at a more no nonsense ammo company, like Double Tap, for instance. They want $29.95/50 for .45acp JHP(Speer Gold Dots).

So, will it be $2.15 a round using a largely untested bullet from these guys:

or $0.60 a round for what is considered to be one of "the" JHPs to use for SD from a company who didn't hire a 13 year old to take care of their marketing?

My $$$ is going to the latter, sorry Sweeney.

It could be the best ammo in the world and I could not afford enought to carry much less enough to practise with and make certain that my weapon would propery function with it prior to loading up for carry. Just don't see that it makes that much difference.

Interesting review I like the concept of testing with the clothing and water jugs, more range time for me,
as a side note everytime I see that picture I want to yell "Extreme to the max!" I'm starting to get funny looks. Also JMO but if they did a tv commercial I think the monster truck show guy would fix the bill.

I would try some if the price wasn't so high. But just think about all the other manufacturers "tacticool" ads. I am glad people are still trying to improve things.
Just think we could all still be shooting .38 spl out of revolvers instead of gold dot out of tupperware.

Box-o-truth is consistent with what I have read elsewhere. I bought some of the fangface ammo a few years ago for my P3AT based on the advertisements and a gunshop sales pitch. After reading about tests on the stuff, I shot it up and replaced it with CorBon in my carry weapons (and did away with the P3AT and switched to a Kahr PM9). I wouldn't trust it to save my life.

Ohhh .. I just have to do it .. this is a parody of Exteme Shock that I whipped up quick some time last year for a related thread. The funny thing is.. some people have said my image seems LESS silly than the original.. a failed parody perhaps.

$2.15? That sounds a bit steep, especially considering BoT's tests.

Are the guns the ninjas are posing with real? I could have sworn the front guy's using an Airsoft shotty.

Very possible. Take a look at the gun the guy on the right side has. See anything wrong there ?
I've been saying for a long time now that I just can't believe there are enough gullible saps to keep this company above water. Everything about their marketing seems like its trying to impress 12 year old boys who know only as much as they hear on TV about guns.

Golden Sabre, Hydra Shock, Black Talon?
Scratchy does make a valid point."Fang Face" isn't really ALL that bad in light of the rounds quoted above.Hadn't really notice that before. It's a little worse, but the Cheesiest, most tacticool Extreme Shock round name has to be the "Air Freedom Round".:D The hype for the "Fang Face" is terrible though.Touted as "The World's Premier Anti-Terrorist Rounds!":D Is Gecko45 running this company from prison?

They are the cheesiest names and I wouldn't trust my life with them but I like new stuff. And by the way I like 230gr+p Ranger Talons myself.
