Really? And what was the alternative? Trump has put two superb pro- 2nd Amendment judges on the court. And there will be more.....

True, but that isn't the whole story. The supreme court has nothing to do with anti gun legislation from congress. My major concern is if any anti gun legislation gets to Trump. I'm not so sure he wouldn't sign it.

The .gov may know what I purchased and the date I did it at the FFL. BUT after that I am not required in this state to inform them of private purchases or sales. I just have to take reasonable steps to assure I am not selling to a prohibited or underage person. Some of us do a LOT of trading or need to sell things off when times get tough just to survive. I doubt they can trace that path very far. I have had my identity stolen in two instances----both were health insurance companies. They did not inform me for more than a year that it had happened in either case. The thing is that the IRS would not send me my refund check because multiple people tried to claim it. Get this-----I have had the same home address and job for more than 20 years but because they got multiple filings even though they were able to ID me AND verify the same address and info every year (along with the correct refund amount/W2) as far back as 2004 that MY info was the correct one I am still waiting for the last two years tax returns to be resolved and checks issued to me. All that after waiting on hold for more than 5 hours to get to talk to a live person about my problems to start with.

But if I owe them-------------:cuss:

I have used the DL for ID on the 4473 form since I became a dealer 8 years ago. It's not new.
That’s not what this thread is about. The OP is saying that NICS now asks for the DL number during a NICS check, whereas they didn’t used to.

I work in PA now, so I haven’t run a NICS check since July 2017. But I can confirm that prior to that, NICS didn’t ask for your DL number during a check.

I haven't ran into that yet, but it has been a while since I ran a NICS check. 90% of my sales are online and I ship to another dealer. I have never been notified by ATF about this ether.

Thank you! I wasnt worried or paranoid about the changes, I was just asking about the THR feelings on the matter. I did not expect the critical reaction or the nearly paranoid delusions this thread elicited. I was just wondering what folks thought about the recent change in NICS questioning and recording?

You should know that as men get older we become more paranoid and delusional. Women start out paranoid and delusional, but get better with age. How many times has your wife told you that you worry to much? :)

Is it really paranoia if everyone IS out to get you?

Maybe my particular mom and pop gun shop does it differently than others. But every time I have purchased a firearm there (which, frankly hasn't been often in the last few years) I always heard my DL # said over the phone during the NCIC check.

Only if the voices in your head say so........................:D

I've had a Concealed Weapons License for so long I can't remember a dealer running a background check over the phone when I bought a gun. Of course I'm so old, it's hard for me to remember how long I've had a Concealed Weapons License too.:D
Seriously, my Idaho CWL expires next year, and even though Idaho no longer requires a license for concealed carry, I'm going to go ahead and renew mine just because I want to avoid any possible hassles with phone-in background checks. In fact, when it comes time to renew my CWL, I'm going to go ahead and take the class so that I can get an Idaho "Enhanced" CWL. The Idaho "Enhanced" CWL is required for legal concealed carry on Idaho's college campuses. And we occasionally do end up on the ISU campus, which is only about 25 miles from here. My wife and I attended a lecture there just last week. I felt kind of naked without my carry piece.

Well considering all the info along with my DNA that the government has from the time I was in the service plus the fact that I have to use a UPIN every time I purchase a firearm from a FFL, it doesn’t bother me that they give my DL number too.

Every big box store and home based FFL that I have used in different states over the past 15 years have always recorded my DL info on the 4473, and I have always put my SSN on there. 6 or 7 years ago, one home based FFL forgot to write the info down on the form and called me as I was driving back home. Never had a delay doing that, and the longest it has taken me to conduct a transaction has been about 10 minutes.

Yes, that’s how it’s been for everyone here. But again, that’s not what this thread is about. Of the information that’s put on the 4473, not all of it is included in the NICS check. Previously, the drivers license information was never included in the NICS check. The OP is saying that now it is.
