My Ruger SR-45 won't feed properly and I was wondering if other HRoaders had similar problems. I'm using Missouri's 185 grain "Button" SWC and the OAL measures 1.114, which should feed fine. The plunk test is fine as is the Lyman case gage go-no go. The bullet when ejected unfired has a small cut groove in the rim of the bullet and there's a small cut in the rim of the case? Any similar problems out there?

When I had cuts in the case rim, I wasn't leaving enough of the bullet exposed above the rim. I read it somewhere to leave a thumbnail (or a penny) thickness of lead showing above the case rim for 45ACP. They should still pass the plunk test fine, but it's ok for it to not go "quite" flush into your barrel with this method. As long as you can chamber a round, eject it, and the OAL not change or the bullet not be deformed, then all should be well.

My Ruger 1911 ate the button bullets fine with the above method, though I don't have my measured OAL memorized. You may try the MissouriBullet Bullseye #2 LSWC. They may chamber better in general if you still have trouble.

I had a problem with the MBC SWC feeding into my Kimber. I don't remember of any marks. I found that seating the bullet to where the bearing surface was a hair below the casing mouth, and giving the case a slight roll crimp fixed the feed problem. Not sure if that makes any difference with the SR-45 or not.

Feed

The correct amount of bullet showing is 1/32" in front of the case.
You may also have a ramp issue. Polishing feed ramps is a very common fix more most autos.
Some magazines just do not work right.

My guess is bullet and feed ramp. The 200 grain BBSWC run smoother.
1/32" or about half of the leading edge of the bullet.

My SR 45 had feeding problems. I could only shoot 1 bullet at a time. Happened with both mags. I sent the gun back to Ruger and they replaced many parts, even the barrel. Works fine now.

ChasMack, I think I'm going to send mine back to Ruger. I've had trouble with other bullets as well so I think there's something inherently wrong with the pistol. This issue has also been on the Ruger blog. Thanks for all of the responses!

My SR45 despises anything other than a round nose. It will jam every 1-2 rounds with a SWC profile bullet, no matter what the seating depth. I've tried long all the way to min with same results. My XDS on the other hand loves the SWC.

RPegram, I called Ruger today and received my no-charge shipping papers via e-mail to send my SR-45 to the factory and it's going back tomorrow. You may want to do the same because from what I can determine a lot of people are having trouble with this pistol feeding properly and from my view point as well it doesn't like swc bullets.
