After having my 2nd and 3rd choices up til now I finally bit the bullet and got an Aimpoint PRO! Just slapped it on my AR tonight, no chance yet to shoot or zero it. But my initial impressions are very positive. The dot is very clean and I can see just looking around the house that it has much less parallax than the cheap sights. I actually traded in a .40 cal pistol I never carry or shoot and got the PRO and some cash, so that was nice. Still it might wind up costing me- it's enough nicer than my cheaper sights that I will probably get another one for one of my PCCs down the road. I really wanted something I can leave on all the time without running down the batteries and not worrying that I'll forget to turn it on.

Here are a few crappy pics:

Nice, I love mine. Something to note with these, is you can remove the riser if you need to. I did for the one I use on the M4 Shotgun.

Ah, thanks! I think the height is going to be about right for this gun but if I get one for my Beretta Storm carbine or CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 I'll want a lower mount.

Looks good. Need to move it forward to the front of the receiver. Obstructs your vision too much where you've got it now.

AWESOME!!! Tell us how it is on the range!!

I've been looking at putting an Aimpoint Pro on my PTR-91 .308 battle rifle.

Actually, I'm going to remove or relocate the irons so I can move the Aimpoint PRO even further back. I've experimented extensively with several RDSs on several different long guns and invariably I find they work best for me as far back as I can mount them. YMMV obviously but that's how I like to run them.

No. It is obstructing your vision.

Optics positioning is very personal, I like my RDS a little further back as well.

Good choice, Aimpoint PROs are good RDSs.

As for mounting location, I like mounting mine as far up on the receiver as possible. As long as it's still mounted to the receiver it's solid. Further up allows me to see more peripheral.

I've tried it both ways (forward mounting and back) with an Aimpoint Micro. For me, I like further back as well. I find the reduced peripheral is a lot less than the increased view through the scope (effects dot pick up speed especially from awkward positions/poor cheek weld). YMMV, there is no right way.

Guy on the other side of my cubicle loves his PRO.

Trijicon brought this in to show us a few weeks ago:

They're aiming (pun intended) at the Aimpoint PRO market. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Good-looking rifle you have there - I like stubby vertical foregrips.

Got an e-mail notice about that one yesterday - ye olde ears perked up!

I could [STRIKE]use[/STRIKE] want another red dot and had been thinking about trying something a little different than my current one (EOTechs / SRSes / TRS-25) - will have to wait and see how prices / reviews / availability on the Trijicon shake out.

That new Trijicon looks good. If it is really $450 retail (less on the street) it will take a chunk outta PRO and micro sales.

I like my H1 a lot, but do wish the lens was just a little bigger.

I'm eager to see one of those in person, too. I'm pretty happy with my PRO but I could see trying one of those Trijicon sights on my Scorpion.

You'll really like the PRO. I'm rockin' one on my 7.5" SBR, don't think I could have done better without spending a whole lot more. I like some of the Trijicon options, but don't care for the $900+ price tag on most of them. And while I'm a fan of the micro sights like the RMR, Deltapoint, Fastfire, etc, I don't want them as a primary/only optic in most applications. Im using an MS-04 on my featherweight, but that's because it's about as light an RDS as you can get, which matters in building a rifle that is to be sub-5 lbs with BIUS and RDS.

I'm glad to have bit the bullet and got a high quality RDS. One less thing to worry about. Now, if it would stop pouring rain for a few hours so I could get to the range.:banghead: Raining pretty much solid for the last three days.

The Aimpoint can handle it ;)

Waiting to hear how you like it on the range. I just picked up and mounted a PRO onto my Colt 6920. So far doing dry-fire presentations I like it quite a bit. It's easier for my eyes to pick out the dot on a target than to focus on the front sight on a carbine-length AR. The weight mounted right over the ejection port doesn't seem to throw off the balance of the carbine either.

I'll reserve the +1 vote for the Aimpoint until after a range trip or three, but I doubt I'll be able to talk anybody out of buying one.

I really like mine, had it for about 8 months, zero issues. My LE6920 wears a Trijicon TriPower (really like the chevron over the dot for fast shooting), but I mounted a AimPoint Pro on my AR6951 in 9mm using a Larue cantilever mount (yes Phaedrus/69, I'm one of those guys that prefers a RDS forward):

It mirrors my 6921 except for the dot VS chevron, and the grey Magpul Vs black. It's my "trainer" as I shoot a lot of steel at my place, the 9mm saves a a lot of wear and tear on my AR500. Plus I can use on indoor ranges for classes.

Chuck,

Thanks, I just drooled on the keyboard a little bit. I would love to have a 9mm Colt AR as a plinker and short range practice rifle, for the reasons you've listed (number 1 being the PCC is kosher on my club's pistol ranges, but the 5.56mm carbine is verboten except in sanctioned events).

Back to the PRO, got mine out and zeroed the other day. Sixty rounds downrange and I was starting to get the hang of it. It's quite a bit different than using irons or a conventional scope.

Phaedrus, give us a range update!
