20 Moa rails aren’t all they are cracked up to be. In fact they are a PITA so whoever told you they are required on or a good choice for a med range hunting rifle steered ya wrong.
I’ve shot out to a thousand yards without one.
The objective is to be close to optical center during your shooting so for zeroing the scope and close shots you’re not optimum with a 20 minute.
I would just install the tall rings (Talley ) light weight mounts are a good choice and be done with it.
Seriously

I own over 20 Leupolds never an issue never needed to use warranty. Can you provide your sources for these issues. I am curious.

I spent weeks researching scopes online, multiple forums, reviews etc. I'm not saying theyre bad but they have well known erector issues if you dial them a lot. Google leupold erector problems and you will get a long list.

What kind of problems? I'll be shooting at my friends range out to 700 and figured a little extra adjustment would be a good thing.

Can you explain why there would be close range zeroing issues? Wouldn't that be a scope issue?

Ya I just did some math. With a 200yd zero Id need to dial around 15moa up to hit at 700yds.

My scope has 80moa adjustment, so, 40up/down+-

So there should be plenty of room to hit out to 700 without the 20 moa rail.

Quick view’
I like med to tall rings because I can acquire the target a little easier. More comfortable than having my cheek scrunched against the stock.

With a 20 minute rail your optical center be negative at short range.

I have only ONE rifle with a canted rail because it’s set up for 1 thousand yard competition , I’m zeroed at 300 and way off optical center.
Just for thought a scope erector system is a tube inside a tube so if you are extended one direction ( elevation)you will be limited the other direction ( windage) you hit the side ..

This scope has 140 total minutes of elevation allowing me to dial a loooong shot .

Im not even sure now if I should get a picatinny rail or just some standard one piece mounts.

My buddy says picatinny rail to get the most out of my eye relief.

Yep, Im contemplating those but dont want eye relief issues lol
