Does anyone know what causes a gun to have this kind of finish? It almost looks like it was exposed to really high temperatures. I thought those grips were supposed to be black.

Not looking to discuss the gun model, nor the persons auction. Just curious about the finish wear because I have seen a few guns like that now and it doesn't look like to me normal wear.

Thanks

Shawn

It's likely an old police trade-in that got carried a lot. Holster wear...

Really? I wouldn't think that an officer would carry a single stack, I guess maybe a BUG?

To me though it doesn't look like holster wear. Some places that should have wear do not and other spots that do have wear you wouldn't think it could come from a holster.

I have no clue though.

Thanks

It might just be a bright flash combined with oil. The flash washes out the flat sides of the gun but where there is oil spray or seepage it stays darker.

I think it's oil on the surface. It looks very similar to the alloy frame on my 1911 PD after just cleaning it if I don't wipe off the excess oil, notice the discoloration is at the front and rear of the rails, the takedown pin, extractor, and safety. The discoloration on the front by the barrel is probably from not being cleaned.

Going back and looking at the pics I can see that the oil theory is highly likely. Also pointing out the opening part of his ad.

Excellent condition, appears lightly used.

If this is the case, why would someone post pics that look like this especially when they are trying to sell it??? One would think that if it was really in such good condition that the seller would do what he could to make that show in the photos and even more so if it was something simple as wiping the pistol down better or to turn the flash off.

Thanks for the input guys.

Shawn

You would think he could have at least wiped the crud off the case before he took the picture. Looks like it has been stored in the black hole of Calcutta.
