So there I was right? Ordered, an AR-10 to my local gun shop. Went to go pick it up 04/28/10, and after they did the standard NICS check for Ohio, he came back and said I would be delayed! I was like, *%$#@!. Never had that problem before, I've bought several guns in the past and at most the check took 2 minutes! The only thing that I would think to cause the delay would be that I purchased two firearms about two weeks ago fairly closely. Maybe a flag came up on their end due to that. Even though I have no criminal record, I'm still nervous and stressed out that they might call back and say I'm denied. Just don't want to be turned into one of those horror stories (making appeals, etc). The day was going good too, felt like Christmas, then Santa didn't come......

Anyone have any expierence with this?

Generally no big deal. If no answer in 72 hours you get the gun anyway.

kinda weird but, shortly after posting, I received a call from my gun shop to notify me that they called back and gave the ok!

Same here. I got delayed. I didn't curse it, I just said 'Okay', left and told him to call me when it cleared. I hadn't even gotten out of his neighborhood when he called me back.

Possible explanation...

I read something about the FBI was going offline because of the hiring of thousands of census worker background checks. It may have started and that would slow the process big time.

Glad to hear you got approved. Imagine what it's like for us in CA having a mandatory 10 day wait. Anytime in between the period you can be called and denied for any number of reasons. I never rest easy during the wait since I never know if they'll find "something" to deny me on.

Been hanging around any airports hoping to "see" BHO? :)

Got a Shooting Budd that gets delayed every single time.

Seems there is some sort of wanted felon that has the same name, and only 1 digit difference in SS number.

Hey it could be worse.

I was growing used to getting a delay 100% of the time. The last time I went to purchase a gun I got the delay. The guy at the store recognized me from prior purchases and gave me the contact information so I could get the unique identifier number and not be delayed ever again.

Then two days later I got a call and it was a "denied". ***?

When the paperwork showed up from the FBI it included the explanation "...someone with the same or similar name as me has a restraining order against them" and therefore my application was denied pending further investigation.

So I filled out the paperwork (which honestly contains no more information than a 4473), paid to have myself fingerprinted and sent the paperwork in.

Average time to have someone handle my case and clear me? About 150 days, and that was 2-3 months ago when I sent it in.

I don't have a restraining order against me. Never have. I don't even have an unpaid parking ticket. I have a CPL (CCW) in the state of Washington with an address that matches my current DL.

So cheer up. Three days? No worries friend.
