IJ70-17A

Purchased in either the late 80's or early 90's, I can't remember which any more, from the ill fated J&G Sales Mesa AZ retail store. I do remember that it cost me all of $89!! :what: :neener:

I still have it today.

This pistol remains the only one of my collection that was ever drawn in self defense, but I digress.

There was a J&G store in Mesa?! What happened? If it was still around they would get a lot more biz from me!

My first handgun was a S&W 66 357 4" bought it in 89 I sold it yrs ago.2nd was a taurus pt92 I still have it with several newer family members.LOL

G22 w/CTC laser grip and 29 rd mag.
And I paid a few HUNDRED dollars more for it then I should have.

But I learned....Now I hunt for the best deals in the country and check/double check check, before I buy.

My First Handgun

Walther PPK/S in .380. I bought it new on my 21st birthday on the way to apply for my first CWP. I carried it 24/7 for 17 years and sent 10,000 rounds downrange with it. It has a Bullseye spring kit and I flipped & drilled the rear sight to make it 3 dot. It's got holster wear you can feel! Typical Walther, it had a few malfunctions in the first few hundred rounds and has not failed to function since. I've always considered the 9mmk (.380) with +P Cor-Bon enough for two legged varmints, especially in a weapon as accurate as a tuned up PPK.

But.....

In recent months a VERY large cougar has been prowling around our house. The game warden says based on it's walking stride length it has to be over 300 pounds. Apparently we have the highest population density of whitetail deer to be found anywhere so cougars can kill at will and some get friggin' huge.

So...

I decided that I really need something with more stopping power on my person at all times. I strongly believe in picking a single carry weapon and sticking to it longterm regardless of how many others may come and go. After much studying and range rentals I bought an XD45 compact and have been thoroughly impressed with it. I've got 1000 rounds through it and love it. I hope someday it will feel like part of my hand as the Walther does.:)

Colt trooper 357, $175.00 1974. Sold it 3 times and I kept getting it sold back to me. I took that as some kind of sign and I guess it would be the last one I would sell now.

Stainless Ruger Security Six with 6" bbl and target grips. Bought NIB during the mid-70's. Still have it, and will never sell it.

My first handgun was a Dreyse 1907. I still have it. It's a 1907, German-made .32. My father gave it to me to keep in my tent when we went camping. I was probably 12-13 years old. I shot it into my 20s. Doesn't fire reliably now 'cause of a firing pin problem.

Lets see... The first handgun I legally purchased was a Kimber Tactical Custom II right after my 21st birthday. Before that I just had my dad buy me whatever I had saved up for.

S&w Model 13

my first handgun was a smith model 13 i got used at a sporting goods store in ft dodge ia. i shot i several hundred rounds through it but i was enamoured with the smith&wesson model 27... i had started reloading .38 spl-.357 mags not long after i got it so i was all set for that caliber... i came across a 95% model 27 a few years later and traded the 13 and $100 for it.... thus a 1968 vintage pinned and recessed model 27 cost me only $250!

Smith & Wesson .38

I bought her last week. 1961 Smith & Wesson .38 Combat Masterpiece K-frame four screw, adjustable rear sight. Has original diamond grips plus some after market ones. I love how it looks with the diamond grips but don't want to damage them. There is no ware on the bluing at all, she is perfect.
Should I just put the original grips on and enjoy the gun the way I like it or is it best to try and preserve them. I don't plan on selling this gun I will give it to my son one day.

Thanks.

My first handgun was a Contender, I bought it at a gunshow, actually my father did because I wasnt old enough.
First handgun I baught myself was a Colt woodsman but I ended up selling it a year later :banghead:

My first handgun was issued to me as a duty weapon. It was a S&W Model 10 in which we carried 158 grain round nose lead rounds, and we thought we were well armed!. My how things have changed. I once saw those rounds fail to penetrate a car windshield of a fleeing felon who was firing at Police at the time. It gave me pause to consider that it just might not be the best weapon for Police work.
Later we went to Ruger Single Six .357's and that was a pretty good bet for most situations.

Used colt 1911 that shot like a dream. I would feed and eject empty cases from this pistol. God only knows how many rounds I put thru this pistol or how many had been thru it, but it never missed a lick. The only problem I had was after a while it started shooting low so I filed down the front sight. As the years went by I had to lower the front sight to the point where I could barely see it. I gave it to a 1911 smith to have it fixed, but when I got it back it was still shooting low. I finally sold it to a ship agent who sold it to a Greek ship captain. I found out later it was stolen in Israel. I hope it found it's way into "good hands".
