What was the first AKM / AK47 / Kalashnikov-derivative put on the civilian market in the United States? I'm wondering because I saw a picture on Corbis of a native American with an AK47 in 1973, didn't think there were AKs in the US that early.
There were rumors that AIM was sponsored by outside countries who wished to link with american indians. You will also see pictures of AR-15 rifles at wounded knee.
