I was wondering about this particular AK47. As you can see from the picture it is stamped; SAIGA, LEGION IZHEVSK RUSSIA, & Arsenal Las Vegas NV USA.

I'm familiar with Saiga AK's, and the Arsenal brand is well known. I guess the Legion offshoot of Izhevsk is geared towards nicer/higher end AK's?

Does anyone know, were these rifles factory built and imported in sporter configuration (before the ban) and converted by Arsenal? Or did Arsenal start with a stripped down version?

I guess I'm mostly curious as to what exactly Arsenal did to these particular rifles? Normally I think they built their AK's with Bulgarian parts kits but hopefully someone here is more knowledgeable than me when it comes to this.

Those were sold as the Sgl series, they are converted russian saigas. So the bullet guide added, trigger group, buttstock, trigger guard, and muzzle device were replaced/ added. The handguard, handguard retainer, gas tube were also added.
At one time they Arsenal were selling a version that had the handguard and brake conversion done but not the back half. Not sure if theg all came that way...

Bulgarian Arsenals are not kit builds.

They are a quality AK by the way. My only fault to them was the thin polymer like finish which could strip off with powder blast cleaner. I had two SGL 5.45x39. One was more accurate and definitely a keeper. Also Saigas in general are good quality AKs.
I think the Saiga 308 16" is one of the best ones ever brought in. Veprs are also excellent. My current one is an SLR107 Bulgarian Arsenal(stamped). Been a solid fan of these since I bought my first milled Bulgarian Arsenal in 1999. That was a low cap single stack rifle I bought for 450.
You can convert a Saiga 7.62 andhave a very nice rifle and the satisfaction of doing it yourself. The only downside is you have to get a little more involved if you want a 24mm Muzzle brake.

I've owned other Saigas and had them converted, I agree they are nice rifles. I had never seen one with Legion and Arsenal on it so I was curious to do some research.

The research was after the fact, I picked one up the other day, someone had it duracoated which I don't mind because it came out nice, and they put a crappy stock on it that I've ordered an Arsenal stock to put back on it, other than that its hardly ever been fired. And for 550 I couldn't pass it up! haha.
