What is more useful (home defense/property defense) a flash can like what comes on PSA 300 pistols or a comp like the PWS556 that reduces muzzle rise and flash. I realize this is probably subjective, but was wondering if the recoil/muzzle rise reduction of a comp like the PWS556 is more beneficial or if it would be way too loud out of a 7.5" barrel?

For home defense inside I would want a suppressor, I shot my AR from inside the barn and was surprised at the increase in noise. Maybe get some cheap electronic ear muffs and keep them next to each home defense gun.

Not looking to spend the money on a tax stamp/suppressor right now

Before I got my suppressor I was running the following on my 300 BO carbine.

For the $25 dollar it was pretty good. It's aluminum so its very light. It does a good job and pushing the muzzle blast away from you as the shooter. I took it off to put my SDN-6 mount on but I gave it to my brother where he is running it on a 10-inch 300 BO pistol.

The PSA upper has their version of that KAK one. I hear they work well for pushing muzzle blast forward. But they don't help with muzzle rise (I don't think they were intended to). That's why I'm wondering if a comp might be useful or if the blast from the comp would be a pain since it's not getting pushed forward like with a flash can

There is not a lot of recoil or muzzle rise with an AR-pistol in 300BO, especially if your running a brace. I personally would rather have the blast-can than a compensator but I am getting spoiled by shooting so much suppressed. I like quiet guns.

Ok cool sounds like the can is more beneficial. Now someone will probably come on and say the exact opposite haha

When not using the suppressor (and for the year before I got it) I stuck the YHM blast can on my brake/mount a lot. It works well, didn't appreciably increase recoil somehow.

(Note, a year or so for a suppressor paper to clear. So if you will be in the mood for a suppressor in a year, now is the time to get it done.)

A Kaw Valley Precision would reduce some recoil because of the single baffle and also redirects noise away from your ears. No tax stamp necessary although I agree that would be the best money spent for HD. No amount of money restores lost hearing to good again and just like range commands, if a wife or children cannot hear you they are in harms way.

I've narrowed it down to the KAW Valley and the BRT Mini Covert. I'm leaning a little towards the mini covert since it's only 1.5" and less than 2 oz. Haven't been able to find any reviews on it though. I know the regular size covert works well just like the KAW Valley.

All good for small and light, however, the larger the internal size, the more effective the device is.....or so I’ve read.

I've got the standard BRT Covert Comp on my 9" .300 and it works pretty well. It's still loud and shooting in and around cover magnifies it as the forward blast/noise bounces back.

Nice setup. I got the Covert Mini so I'll see how it performs. It makes sense that longer works better since a longer barrel will also have less blast. I'm not expecting anything spectacular so worst case scenario it will just be like a thread protector with a little added benefit. It's only 1.5" long and 1.75oz. Maybe I'll find someone at a range that I can compare the standard or KVP to.
