The only problem I see is that you waited for him to draw a weapon before exposing yours. That makes it an even draw (pi) best conclusion or even gives him a fraction of a second advantage.

When it comes to a SD scene you don’t want a fair fight but a clear advantage.

Try reading his post this time.

I did. He kept his hand in his pocket waiting for the approaches to pull his hand out.
One person with hand in pocket, one with exposed gun. Who has the advantage?

The OP already had his hand on his gun in the pocket, responded to the potential threat putting his hand in his pocket by pulling his gun up further, yet not exposing it (reasons for which he explained in Post #1) potential threat removed hand from pocket, made his statement, and left. The OP never exposed his gun, the other person never had one. You extrapolated events into the scene that did not happen.

I think the situation was handled well. I don't go to sketchy places looking for trouble, but the reality is that these days, sketchy people appear EVERYWHERE.

We, the honest citizens of this country, need not concede every inch of real estate, culture, or reality that the woke and criminal minded want to take.

Bingo

Well, the poster was unhurt, and he seems to have avoided the potential legal entanglements. Good outcome.

'true.

I'm not what you are trying to say. The duty to retreat, which dates back before Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Tale of the Man of Law, has been eliminated in many jurisdictions, but if avoidance is a safe option for me, I'll take it every time.

So when I had eaten, I went over to the cop car and told the officer what happened.
It sounds like you failed to pick a safe place to eat and you had a possibly dangerous encounter because of it.

I think you needed to inform the police immediately instead of waiting to finish your sandwich.

I do think you showed restraint by putting your hand on your weapon and making ready to draw it if the threat continued to advance and not drawing it , so I applaud that decision.

He keeps coming and starts to reach for his pocket.

Styx clearly wrote that the guy approaching him asking for money started to reach for his pocket, but didn't show any weapon. Styx's restraint in not drawing or showing his handgun was admirable when no weapon had been accessed and Styx's implied threat of a weapon was sufficient to cause the other guy to retreat.

Oh please. I'm quite sure the OP was sarcastically using fun as in anything but. That's how I took it.
I suspect he didn't think the encounter was fun. But words matter. Think "assault weapon" or even "weapon" used in place of firearm. "High capacity" magazine. Gun "violence." But please yourself. Firearms aficionados and Second Amendment supporters are not the only people who frequent forums.

It sounds like you handled the situation perfectly. You were able to peacefully de-escalate a potentially bad situation before it got of out of hand. If I'm ever in a similar situation I pray that I do as well.

If its not asking too much, could you tell me if you've had any previous training that helped you prepare for this situation?

Wawa is a popular convenience store/gas station chain of stores that also make and sells made to order food.

So it's a place where you can almost expect to encounter homeless people.

Almost every bad encounter I've ever had with a homeless person or a panhandler or an aggressive crackhead has occurred at a convenience store. Once I retired and I didn't have to go to places like that anymore I didn't.

For everyone that says I don't go to dangerous places. Gas stations get robbed all the time and I unfortunately have to put gas in my vehicle. Where are you going to meet the general public that might want to do you harm in your "safe" small city? The Gas Station.
This is true. This is why I don't hang out at gas stations. It's also why I don't go to gas stations when they're busy.

It all boils down to result. Nobody got hurt or arrested so he did good.
He literally put this out for a critique. Yes he got away with it but that was chance. It wasn't because he had a good plan or he was implementing best practices. He got lucky.

I can't guess since that is very much a state law issue AND how local LE would interpret in the community. The fact that no weapon was actually displayed makes a big difference.
What if

The cop goes to search Styx and he has a gun just like the homeless guy says he did?

We don’t disagree, and my point wasn’t necessarily about picking a fight, it was more about not being bullied by clowns or criminals.

BLM, defund the police, woke agenda, Antifa…all trying to make folks ashamed of self sufficient, Bible based virtues and their behavior that’s been proper and right for many hundreds of years.

Hey, you've just hit on something that always cracks me up when we have these types of threads -- the folks that emphatically state that they never go to the "stop'n'robs" -- are there any gas stations left that don't have mini-marts? Not in my neck of the woods, anyway.

Maybe we just have a lot of members driving EVs these days, who charge 'em at home.

I had to agree with you and laugh at the same time. I get gas when it is 1/4 low no matter where I am (running out of gas while stuck in a traffic accident is not a great idea) on the other hand, eating the food at a gas station convenience store is likely to do more harm than a 'possible' sketchy person . Disclaimer, OK, I have stopped and bought a soft drink occassionaly.
