GEORGIA, GO DAWGS!
I get bored with shooting paper. I like to shoot golf balls with a .22, I live on a farm, and there is no shortage of eggs, so the 22 busts them up every once in a while, and my 7 yr old boy loves to watch them explode! What cool things do you use as targets. just a fun lil post! An unopened beer, + a 150 gr 7mm seirra boat tail = exciting times, plus a great aroma while looking for shards of said beer can.

I save my cans that corn and beans and stuff like that come in. I rinse them and store in a walmart bag until i go shooting. They bounce better than drink cans.

2 liter coke bottles and drink cans filled with water are fun.

Cheezwiz, Reddiwhip, cheap soda, Misc discounted produce

Sometimes you can get dented soda cans, from the distributor for little or nothing.

I do like the dollar store idea, Ill have to check that out next time I go to the range

Couple of college text books from classes that I detested and could not sell back to the bookstore (very gratifying)

Old appliances with a thick enamel finish... washers, dryers, fridges and sinks. Even a .22 makes a very satisfying 1" – 2" perfectly round "bullet hole" in the finish with each shot. Just like in the movies or something...

Shoot-n-see targets work on the same principle.

Of course you have to be safe when shooting at something that can produce ricochets. As fun as I found this activity to be in my Arizona desert youth, I would think it's only safe for someone with their own safe sooting land and their own old appliances.

I like shooting propane tanks - empty ones. I've got piles of empty little green ones I've been saving up for targets.

I like to shoot clay birds on the berm... 100yds is all my club's range has. Bust the clay and then start in on the fragments.:D

IMO, a gallon milk jug filled with water is a good way to show a kid what a bullet will do. Smaller drink bottles full of water are okay for finer shootin', but don't do like a clay bird for flyin' apart. Steel plates are good too... if it's a swinger, you don't hafta re-set. I'm wishing I had at least 300yds of range which would go pretty well with a 10" steel plate. I never tried to hit a golf ball at 100yds, but it oughta make it interesting.

Clays are always great, for kids Salteens, or cookies are also good( works with BBs or pellet guns as well)

I like to take spoiled fruit and freeze it into ice balls. then later little varmints come out to nibble the fruit shards......live targets...

old pots and pans, bottles of any varitity, anything that you can get to swing,
oh, and good cheap target stands can be found on any road way ( but unless the stand 'em on your propertey, wait until after the election) in the form of the 'vote for me' signs. and if you can get a hold of them, real estate signs work great too. just don't steal them.
we jury rig all sorts of weird stuff to shoot. we used to spend time makeing the oddest dummies. we name the dummies too ( although for some reason female dummies always end up as 'esmeralda' ?)
if your of artisic bent, when your teaching kids, drawing sillouettes of monsters is cool. when i was 10 i was giving dracula double taps to the chest!
basically, if it moves, falls down or sprays water, its fun.....

paint balls on golf tees - put sheetrock behind so you can see the splat - you name the distance - go on safari with animal crackers!!!

Second the pumpkins, especially Hallowe'en Jack-O-Lanterns after they've spent a couple of weeks outdoors and become soft and nasty.

I like the waxed cardboard orange juice cartons that have small, plastic caps on top. Fill them with water and screw on the cap. They burst much more theatrically when hit than do polyethylene milk jugs or PET soda-pop bottles.

My Mom wasn't that impressed by pop bottles and milk jugs, but she just loves to see those paper cartons explode.

I also use a lot of four-to-eight-inch scraps of 2x4 and 2x6 lumber as pistol targets.

Empty Casings. That gets really interesting with .22's. Especially since I don't own a scoped gun.... Close range is neat with a pistol (hard though-gets old fast) and just awesome with a rifle. my first love...Soda cans. Grew up blasting them.

2 liter coke bottles filled w/ water
20 oz coke bottles for closer in targets

the candy 'Necco wafers' make good .22 targets. About the size of a quarter

Just remember to clean up all your garbage when you're done. I hate pulling in to a well used shooting area tofind a bunch of garbage. In spite of that, we usually carry a couple garbage sacks full on our way out. Sometimes doesn't put a dent in the crap, but I like to think it helps.

screw around and shoot the one full one in the pile and you might have yourself a serious medical problem... and before you say that you make sure they are always empty... people get shot with "unloaded" guns all the time

me, i like the 20oz pop bottles... fill em to about 3/4 an inch from the top with water, a shot will make em explode nicely from the hydrostatic shock

mossberg, stay away from my pets!!!!! *grin*
yes i have pet rats.
oh yeah, i have some squesshy pumpkins in the yard waiting for their untimely end. the problem is they are in the front and the range is in the back, so i got to figure out how to move them without popping them. i don't want pumkin guts all over!!!
