I'd love one, but if they are offered togeneral public there will be two things - no switch, obviously, and it will be thousands of dollars. Oh well, very nice rifle.

I thought there was already another system like this about to hit the market. I believe it was called the Hydra. Basically an M16/M4 type system with a lower that sports interchangeable mag wells.

Kind of a sidenote, I wonder why they chose that name?

That's a particularly strong word for Jews. Jewish soldiers take an oath that "Masada shall not fall again".

On the more harmless front it's simply a word for Fortress, but the political aspects of the name have some implications I'd think.

I just hope they can make some civilian models before Congress does something horrible.

I as well hate the host. He seems very in love with himself. I was going to get to play with one of these through Surefire then something happened...

phone conversation between a surefire vp and a magpul vp...

Magpul vp- We would like to give you some Masada's to demo at Shot show this year.

Surefire vp- Why would we want to do that when everything your company makes is crap?

No more Masada for me. Lame.

Apparently you haven't tried a P-Mag. Then again, you're in KA, so that makes sense.

I have P-mags and I love them. Infact those are the only mags I have for my AR. Not everyone at Surefire agree's with what he said to Magpul.

Apparently you didn't read what he wrote. He was quoting someone else at Surefire, that was not his thought on this.

Note post number 3 by Magpul. Interesting stuff.

I'm very familiar with the history of Masada.

I get yelled at anytime I talk about Magpuls business but this time I will quote from that Arfcom thread.

From the Magpul rep posting there:

I don't think the Masada name will gain us any sales but that is the point.
:scrutiny:

They will be offered the the general public this summer at somewhere around 1400 bucks. Not too shabby.

Looks great! I like it, too bad it will most likely cost 3 times as much as my AR that i'm familiar with. And if I had to guess I would assume that a left handed AR would also be cheaper.

$1400 has been thrown around for a long time on ar15.com, and is stated as their target in their press release. Has it changed? No one knows and will not know until Magpul releases them. As far as the release date. Nothing official has been set, but I think there has been some vague statements over on ar15.com about this from Magpul.

I like the name, and like Magpul's stance on it.

IMO, too many keyboard commandos concern themselves with a name. Hell, Magpul can call it The POS and I'd still buy one. One thing is certain when it has the Magpul name behind it...it will be QUALITY. I have never had an issue with any Magpul product that I have owned. While this is the very first firearm that Magpul has produced and people have their concerns. I believe that the Masada will be a success because the company stands behind their products.

The only problem I see for Magpul is that their products are in such demand that the company does not release products in time. That is good and bad for a company to have that much business. I just wished they would try to release their products by the date that they "promised."

As far as price...I too have been seeing the $1,400 range, which is a reasonable price. Considering that some gas piston uppers cost nearly the same as the $1,400 price range for a complete rifle.

Well, people shouldn't have much longer to wait as SHOT 2008 is this weekend and I anticipate there will be some news concerning the Masada released at that time.

If I recall correctly, the KRISS .45acp carbine was supposed to retail for around $1200 according to one of their representatives, but now that they are taking orders they are charging $2400 per carbine. If we follow the trend of each new weapon system in the last 10 years, that $1400 price tag will likey end up being between $1600-$2000 MINIMUM. I followed the RA XCR closely and initial estimates were for a rifle around $1100, well they go for about $1500 now(BTW, my XCR was worth every penny).

Fall 2007 issue of Combat Tactics has a good length article about the Masada.

In the article, Magpul's Richard Fitzpatrick "decided to call the new rifle Masada, the ultimate symbol of defiance, after the ancient Israeli fortress that held the mighty Roman Empire at bay."

I called Magpul up asking if there was a chance of them offering them at ShotShow, she said no, Summer 2008 and they would start at about $1400.
