Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph

Mine does what I need it to.

But bear in mind that Labradar has the small box LX on the way and Midway is showing a Caldwell doppler chronograph in the works. So if you don't need it now, you might benefit from comparison when three brands start showing up.

I thought about that, and so it goes with any technology. Actually theres always something better that will come along.

I took my Garmin out for the first run with a real firearm at lunch today. Went to the indoor range. I did buy a little taller trippod to use at the indoor range so I can shoot while standing at the bench. Not sure if it is needed, but it is what I did. The Garmin ran flawlessly as expected. So simple to use. Never picked up a shot from the guy next to me . I really just sat it down pointed down range and started firing. :) While something better may come out, or likely will in time I am satisfied with my purchase. Competition is always good, and could pressure pricing as well.

Mine is subject to crosstalk from the narrow lanes at the rental range here.
I try to go in at opening and get an end lane. If necessary, I will shoot while the next guy is reloading.
I would like to do some masking with aluminum foil.

FWIW I was at the end lane so the other shooters were only on one side. Maybe that made a difference, I don't know. This particular range is rather spacious compared to some others.

I have been holding out before buying a chrono. Technology is advancing by leaps and bounds. I finally bought a Garmin Xero C1. I used it at the indoor range shooting my Arex Delta Gen 2 with different loads. Boy is it a jewel. It is everything I hoped it to be. Very intuitive and easy to use. Now to move on to the rifle range. Best wishes!

Does anyone know how many "sessions" can be stored on the App? I'm up to 17 and am trying to decide how to handle the data.

What's everyone else doing in that regard?

I was looking at that FX doppler chrono but it seems to have vanished and now I'm looking at the Garmin. It seems to be a step above the older LabRadar now but it's still missing one thing that I could use ... BC calculation by doing multiple downrange readings. I think this is something the LabRadar does today. Can anyone verify whether the Garmin does or does not currently do the BC function?

It currently does not give you any down range date only the calculated muzzle velocity. It has to take some data going down range a short distance but not nearly as far down range as LabRadar and it is not accessible to the user.

I think they are missing out and I wonder how hard it would be to add that feature in the Garmin firmware. The following is a blurb on the Caldwell VelociRadar ... "VelociRadar tracks bullets downrange offering the full picture of ballistic performance. Using these downrange velocity measurements, the VelociRadar calculates true muzzle velocity, the bullet’s ballistic coefficient, and downrange energy."

I love that Garmin game out with this mini form factor, improved shot detection (compared to LabRadar), and a more reasonable battery life. I think they are going to be up against it with the new LabRadar LX and the Caldwell VelociRadar though. Competition in this category is great and will hopefully knock a few $'s off of the prices.

The small form factor and battery life in the Garmin is why they can't give you that down range data. The probably only have the power and antenna aperture to track the bullet 10-20 yards down range before the signal to noise ratio makes the return unusable.

I really love the down range data you could get with the bigger unit and loved playing with it when I had access to a Lab Radar but the form factor and reliable use of the Garmin (not to mention a long history of using of Garmin GPS's) made me willing to give up the down range data and go with the Garmin. I am sort of hoping to stumble on a used Lab Radar for cheap and have my cake and eat it too.

I use the provided stand and tether it to bench.
I'm curious if anyone has knocked there's off the bench yet and if it had the better stand at the time.
I knocked mine off once before the tether.

My Caldwell Ballistic Chrono didn’t want to play nice with the App yesterday, so I had to scribble the readings on some scrap paper I found, and some readings seemed “off”.
Coupling that and the responses from this thread has sold me.
I’m gonna order 1 from Cabela’s so as use the points from the card since the price is the same everywhere else.
I did see that our local Scheels had about 50 of them on the shelf…
Thanks for the push fellas……. 😍

I've used my Oehler for over two decades, and was tempted by the Labradar, but held off. Now the Garmin seems even better than the Labradar, but not sure at my age (73) I'll use it enough to justify a purchase. I do use my Oehler during load workup on a new gun or cartridge, but after that it sits a lot. So guessing a new Garmin being easier might see more use, just not sure how much?

I have always taken my old Pro Chrono Digital to the range, it just stayed in the range bag.
The Garmin Xero takes up so little space there is no reason to ever take it out of the range bag.
Maybe move it from one bag to another depending on what the range trip is for.
