Gifting gun to another person in a different state

Can I buy a gun at an on-line retailer and ship it to a family member who lives in another state and who would pick it up at his local FFL?

Would the local FFL be able to "transfer" the gun that I ship to another state to the family member who would be the receipent of my gift?

Yes, absolutely. Gifts of firearms are perfectly legal. Except you would ship the gun directly to his FFL, not to the family member! Shipping directly to the family member would violate several Federal laws.

Just be sure that if the family member is in a state like NY, NJ, CA, DC, etc. that the gun is one that can be legally owned in that state.
