Giuliani Takes Step Toward '08 Bid

A Presidential office filled by Giuliani would be disasterous.

I'd invoke my right to dual-citizenship and go to Jamaica. /sarcasm

Suppose someone came up to you and said "If you can pass this written test, and show on a gun range that you can hold and operate a gun safely, you can buy any gun that you can afford. Revolver, autopistol, fully automatic pistol or rifle, grenade launcher (with grenades), recoilless rifle, ma-deuce... anything."

What then?

I would be all in favor of a system like that. That's the way it should be. I accept that the 2nd amend can and should be subject to regulation, and that's sensible.

Then they close down the ranges ... or refuse to process the paperwork and by fiat have eliminated your 2A rights.

And/or someone gets the bright idea that you should have to "retest" occasionally, then they close down the ranges or refuse to process the paperwork and by fiat have eliminated your 2A rights.

And/or a serious bunch of gun grabbers gets into power and sends the police out with a shopping list ... everyone with a "gun license" gets "no-knocked" at 3:00am (for the safety of the police of course) and the guns you have confiscated.

Also, if you look at history, they used "literacy tests" in the south during and after reconstruction as a means of keeping certain classes of people from being able to vote ... that practice was determined to be unconstitutional, so I imagine using "gun literacy tests" to regulate the exercise of 2A rights would meet the same fate were it to come up before the courts.

All those who should not be allowed to own a firearm:

(1) Anyone who lives within 2 miles of a school zone. We can't have kids being shot now, can we?
(2) Anyone who the FBI believes may be involved in paramilitary type activity, such as attendance at Thunder Ranch, IPSC membership, NRA membership ... after we, we need to weed out the 'nuts'.
(3) Anyone who posses or has tried to possess 'weapons that only the military should have'. These weapons to be defined in a list compiled by experts such as Sarah Brady, Diane Fenstien, Micheal Moore ...
(4) Those who live in a high crime zone (because they might be contributing to the problem)
(5) Anyone who lives in a low crime zone (because they don't need them).

I like using the driver's license arguement on anti's because it always gives them the deer in the headlight look ... but really, I don't believe we need lisence to exercize our 2nd amendment rights about as much as we need a lisence to exercize our 1st amendment rights.

Just my .02.

A lot of people outside NYC don't realize that the years before sept. 11 marked some of the most divisive periods in NYC history. It was close to a fascist police state here. He (Rudy) behaved like jackbooted thug and got away with a lot of crap all due to "public safety" and a lot of people bought it.

Ooohh goody, another RINO. :barf:

Actually, with the way the PTB in the Republican Party have been behaving of late, he may not be a Republican In Name Only.

Either way, I will not vote for either Guiliani or McCain. I've had quite enough of politicians from both major parties using the Constitution as toilet paper.

If like me you can't stomach voting for either RG or JMcC, then at least cast your vote for a third party candidate or write in "None of the Above."

Make your voice heard, but preferably before we need to make the choice between these two Enemies of the People or the Wicked Witch of the North East.

I think we have near universal agreement against these two running. So who are the Republicans who want these two to run? Democrats?

So who are the Republicans who want these two to run?
The Republicans that most want to see these two run are Giuliani and McCain :p

The DNC run mainstream media also wants to get these two to run, that way it doesn't matter who wins, their side wins.

I've also talked to Democrats that would vote for either of these two in a heartbeat ... they clearly have no idea what conservatives actually believe (instead they buy into the anti-conservative talking points ie: "Conservative = sexist, bigoted, homophobic mysogonists who like to see the poor and the brown skinned suffer").

I think McCain's support of the Iraq war will keep many Democrats or independents from voting for him. Given that his anti-2A stance will cost him with the conservatives and pro-2A moderates and liberals, I don't see where he will find a base of support.

Giuliani might fare better with the liberals and moderates. I think he's a greater 2A threat than McCain right now.

Is there any possibility that Rice could run, or will her pre-war drum beating be too much of a burden for her to win in a national election?

 Oh please, the Dems were bitching about Kerry winning the primary due to all of the right wing press back in '04

Back in the early '90s, I was very active in the FIREARMS and RTKBA echoes in FidoNet. At the time, I was the Facility Security Officer of a classified NASA contractor.

One day a guy posted a message that a friend of his had applied for a Top Secret security clearance as a requirement for his employment. He said that the friend had been interviewed by a Defense Investigative Service (DIS)agent who told him that he would be denied his TS because he belonged to the NRA.

I told the guy to have his friend call the DIS agent and ask him, "Is membership in the NRA a CRITERION?" I told him to have his friend use EXACTLY those words. I had a good working relationship with our local DIS rep, and knew that homosexuality, wife swapping, etc., were NOT criteria. I KNEW that NRA membership was NOT a "criterion", ie. something which would disqualify somebody for a clearance. I told the guy that if the agent either said "yes" or wouldn't answer, he should demand to talk to his supervisor, and that he was free to use my name and position as a reference.

A week or two later the guy posted a message that his friend had gotten his TS.

If you're not willing to stand up to the misuse of authority, you've got no right to complain about the consequences.

Preach on, brother!

Deanimator's got it, balls to bones.

Plant your feet, stand up, and let 'em know who they're dealing with.

Chances are, the guy who holds your job/clearance/promotion/etc. in his hands ain't willing to lose his job to keep you from getting yours.

If this were a bar, I'd buy you a drink.

I joined the Marine Corps 16 years ago to fight for our rights in this country to say whatever we want, no matter how stupid, worship whatever we want, regardless of how offensive, and congregate with whomever we choose, no matter how distasteful. If you want to protest by burning our flag, go ahead. (I hope someone pounds you for doing so, but go ahead) Our guns ENSURE these rights. I don't live in fear of the dumb rednecks, thugs, or rejects who may have a gun. They will not kick in my door for the good of the many, nor will they put me in a prison because they have deemed my right to protect myself is somehow responsible for the crimes committed by others. I respect the rule of law and I understand that the duty to uphold and defend the constitution belongs to US, not my government. It is the duty of all good men to defend our rights and to do what is right. Sometimes we need to have the tools to do the violent and distastful things that will keep evil at bay and to secure the rights and safety of ourselves and our families. If you don't carry, I think you should. If you don't have a gun, get one. If you have one, get more.

When Giuliani enters the primaries if anyone dares critisize or question him on anything they'll be branded a traitor, liberal or terrorist lover. The reason? He happened to be mayor of NYC during 911 and all he did was stand on a pile of rubble, and tell New Yorkers to go back to work.

Instead of attacking those who would make bad presidents, how about finding someone worth supporting?

Again, he whispers, Huckabee.

Oh good....more moderates....looks like the GOP is not getting a clue anytime soon.....
Your statement will only apply if one of these moderates makes it on the ballot as the official GOP candidate.

Ralph Nader could switch parties and run as a Republican but that wouldn't mean a damn thing about the party's getting or not getting a clue (especially when he fails).

Remember, the first candidates to enter the race are RARELY the winners (or anywhere close).

Can't you just hear Ann Coulter now? "Don't give me someone who is politically incorrect to criticize."
