Yeah, I know....another range report. I got to shoot a friends Glock 19 this weekend and I was very surprised how comfortable it felt in my hand while shooting. So...I went out and got one today. The rear sights are fully adjustable (comes with little screwdriver) and it came with 2 15-round mags. Thank god for the loader it comes with too! So I go to the range with alot of ammo and it was nice out. I had to make a tiny adjustment on the rear sight (to the right). I really, really like this handgun. It is comfortable and very easy to contro. Anyways, here is my third target of 13 rounds at 10 yards. The first few shots were up and to the left, but then I got into the middle with some nice shots. I went through 5 boxes of ammo and the 115 gr. Independance shot the best for me.

G19 vs XD40?

I shot the G19 at a range and was very impressed. I'm interested in the XD series for carry.

How does the G19 compare against your XD40? Which would be the better carry gun?

many people tend to shoot Glocks to the left at first.. shoot very carefully from a rest, your sights might not have needed adjustment.

If you're right-handed, you might not have enough of your finger on the face of the trigger - as you pull, you're not pulling straight back but applying slight pressure on the right side of the trigger, pushing the muzzle off to the left.

This usually doesn't cause a problem when people take a really slow shot and allow the pistol to fire itself (because you'd see the sights move), but it does happen when you try and punch the trigger.

I think I would rather carry the G19 as opposed to the XD40 because the G19 has a better trigger IMO. Also, the 9mm is much easier for me to control when firing quick shots. AndyC, that is an interesting fact you pointed out about the trigger. When I go to the range tomorrow I will keep that in mind. As you can see from my pic, I was able to hit center on my last several rounds. I am thinking about getting that 3.5# trigger connector my friend told me about. Anyone know anything about it?

i just bought my 19 and iwas shooting to left also. let my brother shoot and so was he. had the sights adjusted and it shoots straight now, but i will also checkmy trigger pull

the only mods i have made to mine are the butt plug and extended slide lock

curious about the trigger connector though

Generally its best to use the middle of the first finger pad and have a little space between your trigger finger and the side of the gun. If you have too much finger in the trigger you'll push the shots left (for a right hand shooter) because you are pushing on the right side of the pistol as you squeeze. Too little finger in the trigger is rarely a problem. For other potential causes for rounds on the left side of the target see above.

I figured out a way to really help me shoot my G19. I had a problem with my non-firing hand comming off while shooting my pistol. My instructor at Tac Pro told me to try interlacing my pinky fingers. I tried that but, my wedding band hurts my little finger when trying to shoot. I then started to take my index finger of my non-firing hand and tucking it over the middle finger of my firing hand and placing it directly on the grip itself. This did two things. It locked my hands together and allowed both of them to control recoil. I mean muzzel flip is gone. Second, it really helps with trigger pull by taking the slop out of my trigger finger. Let me get my camera. I'll be right back.

Here ya go.

When I pull the trigger with my hands on the gun that way, my trigger finger rolls over the index finger of the opposite hand in a way that is seems to tighten up/take the slack out the trigger finger. Plus, it locks the hands together. I can't explain it. Anyway, it is what works for me. Maybe it might help you out.

That is an interesting grip that your instructor suggested you try. I might just give that a try when I go to the range today. :D :D

Try the 3.5# connector. It will smooth things up. You know that little snag right before the trigger goes down all the way? The 3.5# connector will solve that. At least it did on the various Glocks that I have shot that had the 3.5# connector in there which included a G30, a couple G17's and G19's.

Also, get an extended takedown lever. They're only about $10-12 each and are well worth it when you take the slide off.

Contact Jerry: [email protected] for your Glock parts. I've dealt with him for years and he's a great guy. Tell him Edmond sent you. He sells the 3.5# connectors, all the extended parts and even Winchester Ranger ammo.

Of the Glocks I've owned, the 19 is my fave

That seems to be a common phrase heard over at GlockTalk as well. :)

I fired alot of handguns before trying a G23 and G30 recently. I really liked both of them and now am looking at a G19 or G26 for carry when I want a bit more than my 442 or P32.

actually

He told me to try interlacing my pinky fingers. I sort of came up with tucking my index finger on my own. I was really a fluke that worked.

Edmond, thanks for the advice. I will probably send Jerry an e-mail this week because I have been debating getting the 3.5# connector. Thanks.:D

"I think I would rather carry the G19 as opposed to the XD40 because the G19 has a better trigger IMO."

after about 500rds and beyond the xd trigger gets better and better, i love it and in my opinion it is better than the glock, but that is just me.

"the 9mm is much easier for me to control when firing quick shots"

get the xd in 9mm then. that is to easy to fix.

Stock for stock, I think the XD has a better trigger than the Glock. However, put that 3.5# connector in there and I think they are both excellent. The 3.5# connector isn't expensive, about $30 or so. It is well worth it and easy to install.

Glock parts are like Small Block Chevy parts: they're plentiful and relatively inexpensive. :D

My wife has a G19, She loves that ugly :) gun almost as much she loves me!!!. The Glock19 is about the perfect gun for her. She rarely cleans it. It rattles around in the center counsel of her van when it is not on her hip or purse. It has had perfume, makeup lipstick, nail polish remover, hairspray,Cokes and you name almost anything spilled on it. She puts about 50-100 rounds a week through while teaching her girlfriends how to shoot. A couple of weeks ago we where shooting and the wind came up and then the rain. We waited 'till it stop and went back to shooting. She shot one mag dry and instead of having a reload on her she slipped it back in her holster with the slide back. She turned and it fell out into a puddle of mud. The good ol New Mexico red clay mud mixed with sand.Filled it fill of crud. She shook it, off checked the bore and proceded to fire 4 more mags. No malfunctions. I asked her to please clean it that night!!:)(OK Maybe she is not THAT bad about it) , but If my wife can't break it it can't be broken!!!. Heck she gets on me because I baby my G21, It gets cleaned after every range session lubricated as per the manual. She says I spoli mine Glock more than her. Sheez Woman!!!!!

Chuck

BTW her is a pic of her and I with our Glocks

I picked up a used G19 2nd gen a couple of years ago and it would be one of the last to go in my inventory...the other 2 being HK USP45F and a Sig226. I may try the 3.5# connectory myself along w/ other sights.
