For those of you out there please tell me about the Glock 23. I am thinking of getting one but just haven't made up my mind to do so.

The first reason is that since ammo is getting more expensive more and more people are selling or trading their G23's in. I have gone to Wally World and found no 9mm ammo, but plenty of 40 cal.

The second reason is I think I want something a bit more in the power range than my G19. No this is not a caliber war!!!!!

So my question to you out there, what makes you like your G23 so much??????????

Always goes bang, reasonably accurate.

The .40 is a high pressure round and the last time I had it out was on a very cold day; the shockwave bothered me quite a bit. I've never noticed it before so I'm wondering if it was just the dense air. Otherwise the .40 is a great defense round by all accounts.

I prefer the 9mm for casual shooting and have little doubt that the latest defense rounds in 9mm would likely do just as well as .40 in a defense situation. I'm thinking of converting my G23 to a 9mm, or trading for a G19.

I recently tried out the M&P, CZ75, and XDm... all fit my hand better than the Glock, which makes me feel as though I'm conforming to it, rather than the other way around. But it's easy to take care of and I shoot it well, so...

I don't own a 23, but I do own a 19. I'd imagine anyone that does like the 23 likes it for the same reason you and I like the 19, except they prefer the .40s&w over the 9mm.

Since you said "this is not a caliber war," I can't think of any reason anyone would have to give you besides that they like 13+1 rounds of .40s&w in their Glock vs. 15+1 rounds of 9mm:)

What else would you be expecting to hear? They are the same exact gun other than caliber.

The G23 was my first (only) weapon in .40.
I got it because I was looking for that happy medium between the 9mm velocity and the .45’s mass.
All things being equal, I like the .40 as a defensive round - my opinion, my choice.
However, and I'm being brutally honest: I do not enjoy shooting my G23 like I do my 9mm's. To call the G23 "snappy" is an understatement. I can shoot my 9mm's all day and maintain consistent form. By the 2nd mag in my G23 I'm already flinching. It doesn't scare me, it's just an unconscious psychological reaction to such a snappy bang. However, I’m confident in my abilities to put rounds on target in a defensive situation, so I continue to maintain the G23 as my defensive weapon over the 9mm’s, even though I could probably shoot the 9mm’s better.
Now, my friend has a G22 that I can shoot all day like a 9mm. That extra 1/2" of barrel length makes all the difference, imo, in reducing muzzle flip and perceived recoil. Same gun, same ammo, just longer barrel.
The only thing I can say is, try it (or any .40) before you buy it, if you can.
So your question and my answer is more about caliber than anything…because I can sum up why I love the G23 so much in one sentence: “It’s a Glock”. Period. There’s plenty of information out there about why Glock is the best pistol on the planet… :neener:

Great name for my post. lol:neener:

Thank you very much for your reply. I too have shot a G22 and all seems well as far as the muzzel flip, etc.... Your post really got me thinking.:banghead:

The G23 was my first pistol, I liked it so much i purchased another as a BU, After the first year I switching out the barrel for a match grade one, and getting the Tungsten guide rod, the accuracy and performance improved quite a bit, enough so I felt very satisfied with the upgrades, At the range I put the norm (winchester white box) and when I carry its Hornady TAPs, I havent noticed the recoil to be rough, IMO after owning it since 06' it is still one of my favorites and my daily carry. but I do switch between the 2 G23s and a Kimber Tactical Pro & Ultra. I do recomend finding a friend with one and testing it to see if its right for you tho. it might save you some $ and time in the end.

I liked my G23 as much as my G19, but I didn't like paying that much for ammo.

In retrospect, I wish I'd kept it instead of selling it. There aren't that many autoloaders out there that can be as easily converted to at least three different calibers (9mm & .22LR).

Lo Dead

What brand or manufactor is the guide rod and barrel?????

Have you had any problems with it??????

I heard once you start changing the OEM parts out, the Glock becomes problematic. Is this true?????

Thanks for your input!!!!!!!

I originally had the same questions and a modification happy friend that spent his time replacing everything besides the frame, he has had an issue or 2 but nothing major.
I replaced the barrel and guide rod only and remain extremley satisfied the pistol. i have PMd the rest.
If you do go with the G23 let me know what you think.

Don't make your decision based on capacity, barrel length, etc. make it on handle feel.

There is no real difference, as far as shooting or concealing, the full sized Glock 22 and the compact Glock 23. The big difference is the handle. They have very very different backstraps and finger grooves. The full sized G22 fits me perfectly, but the G23 feels like a plastic 2x4. Other people feel the opposite. Handle both and get the one that feels best.

Side note:

My first full time concealed carry handgun was a full sized Glock 31 (same as G22, but in .357sig). It carried very comfortably and concealed great in an IWB holster with a T-shirt over it.

I noticed the strange availability of .40 as well. I used to prefer 9mm over .40, but more recently they've flipped. My reloading and keeping the cost down has a lot to do with it. I actually was going to buy a Glock 23 this week but ended up with a 21sf since they had no 23's.

I really like mine, but have not been able to shoot it yet. I bought it because of how much I like my 27, figured it would be great to have a slightly larger version of it for times when I can tolerate wearing anything but shorts and a t-shirt.

So far have not been able to fire it, since I picked it up over christmas exodus rigth before I had to report back to Meade.

I had G19's then figured, why not have more power in the same size gun?

""Since you said "this is not a caliber war," I can't think of any reason anyone would have to give you besides that they like 13+1 rounds of .40s&w in their Glock vs. 15+1 rounds of 9mm""

I just bought the G23 used for 435.00 with 2 ea 15 round mags.

Thank you

OK that's it!!!!!!!!!!!
 :D
I am taking the plung and getting a G23.

This makes 5 to the family of G19, 22, 34 & 36 with Advantage Arms 22lr kit for the 19 & 23. :scrutiny:

Thank you to everyone that posted and did not make this a caliber war.:)

I'm one of those people:)

I find that the G22's backstrap is too long and curved, even for my medium-large hands. It feels like I'm holding a boomerang! The knuckle grooves are also inconsistent in size between the first one nearest the trigger guard and the others below it. The 23 on the other hand at least fits my hand better, and the knuckle grooves are all the same space apart from eachother..which I like.

That being said, the more I shoot my H&K and other guns w/ a more natural grip angle, the more I start to hate the Glock's grip angle and the dreaded "hump." I used to just deal with it and I really do like my Glock 19 overall, but now it's getting to the point where I'm actually thinking about selling it because I don't shoot it well and don't want to have to adapt to it.

My baby Glock (26) still feels good to me with a 2-finger grip and points naturally, oddly enough! This is probably because there's no "hump" at the bottom of my hand pushing the muzzle upwards when I point it like with the 19.
