I have some G20 10rd mags that I tried to take the floor plate off of. When i try to depress the button on the bottom it seems like there is a block on it or something. I cant get the button to depress to take the floor plate to put on an extension.

Anyone else know whats up with this? I put the extension on the 15rd mags but I cant on the 10rd.

Yep, been there; done that.

Just under the exterior bottom cover is a small, thin plate. It has the little bump on it that sticks out the center hole of the outer cover. On some magazines, that interior plate ( I forget the real part names) rests on a ledge, or ring, that's molded into the magazines interior wall. There may well be a trick to it I never found, but unless you break that ledge, you can't get the bottom cover off. Maybe if you can fiddle with it enough, you can slip the little plate past the ledge. I never had the patience.

I struggled for a long while trying to get these bottom covers off in order to install Pearce caps. I finally just cut away the OEM covers with a knife and ditched them. After replacing a whole bunch of OEM bottom covers with Pearce ones, I have a bag full of spares anyway. Suffice it to say, I have no plans to remove the Pearce covers.

Stick a punch/small screwdriver down that hole. Squeeze the sides of the magazine near the base. Pull down on the tool you used, going the way which the baseplate will move

Go to YouTube and do a search for "glock remove baseplate" - the fourth or so video (by L1A1) shows you what I'm talking about

You don't need a "Glock Armorer's tool" to do it, any old punch or small screwdriver will do

That does not sound right. On a regular mag, that plate is held down by nothing other than the mag spring. So of course it can be pushed in. (Getting the base plate off is another can of worms, which the previous responders have addressed!)

The only ten rounders I have ever handled were for a G26. That doesn't help. :)

The 15rd mags all I did was depress the plunger and slid the base plate off. The 10rd mags I try to depress the the plunger and it stops and does not depress enough to get the base plate off. This is on both of the 10 rounders.

The ten round magazines have a rib down each side to restrict the capacity and they block the locking plate. You'll need a fairly long, thin punch. Press the button down as far as it will go but don't press hard. Tilt the punch so you are pressing the button toward the front of the magazine and press again. You might have to wiggle the punch a little. When you get the angle and pressure right the locking plate will slide forward and up into the magazine body, at that point you can disassemble as normal. Once you have done it once or twice it takes only a second or two longer than the full capacity magazines.

Glock magazine tool; ordered mine from Brownells. Looks
Like a pair of pliars, use it to depress the two tabs at the base
of the magazine on the side and simultaneously depress
the tab on the bottom of the baseplate. Sliding baseplate
off, being careful with the tension of the magazine spring.

Yes as mentioned you have to bear down on it. It's Austrian, man. The tool or pliers also work.

You have to depress the "button" until the inside plate the spring rests on is permanently forced to the side. It has to be either at about 45* or twisted sideways so it doesn't interfere with the compression of the sides of the mag. Then if you insert a standard Glock tool all the way into the mag and use it to pry against the plate you can pry off the base plate.
