I was fortunate enough to be at the range and a guy I see there from time to time had a G43, G43x and G48. He loves them. Said he does not shoot/carry his 19 or 17 much any more. He asked me if I wanted to try them.
SURE!
I liked the 43x and 48 and the 43 was a great size and snappy.
But, I am confused to discover the 43x and 48 magazines do not fit inside the 43?
Why would they name it the 43x? I felt it should have its own model number as the 43x makes it seem like a 43 with a longer grip.
Also, is Glock going to come out with a new model that is similar in size to a 43 but takes 43x and 48 magazines?

Any thoughts?

A Glockenspiel is a percussion musical instrument with a piano keyboard layout that somewhat resembles what might be better known as a Xylophone.

To answer your Glock question I have no idea what Glock Inc. was thinking when they designed the G43, G43X, and G48 magazines. I'm still trying to figure out the whole G19X/G45 model numbering question.

Maybe contact Glock and ask them.

The G43X and G48 was Glock's 10+1 answer to the SIG Sauer P365 and P365XL.

The slides will interchange with a G43 but the frames are different. You have a 6+1 mag well on the G43 and a 10+1 mag well on the G43X and G48.

Hope this helps.

Does a 19 mag work in a 19X?

No, but a 17 round G17 mag will fit in a G26, a G19, a G19X, a G17, a G17L, a G45, and a G34. A 33 round G18 magazine will fit in all of them too.

IMO Glock made a mistake not making the G43 capable of using the same magazines as the 43X and G48. This way the user could choose the smaller G43 and still have the same mag capacity as the larger G48. Makes for a more versatile gun, use 6 round mags when concealment is important and larger mags when not.

They've done this with every other model Glock in 9mm, 357 Sig, 40, 45ACP, 45 GAP, and 10mm. The full size mags work fine in the compact and sub compact models. But not in the single stack 9mm's

This is what Sig did and they are taking a bite out of Glocks popularity with their P365. I have the standard 10 round 365 that is SMALLER than the 6 round G43 for concealed carry. But I can also buy longer 12 and 15 round magazines with grip sleeves on them for increased capacity when concealment is less of an issue.

Sig does also make the 365 XL that only takes the longer 15 round mags.

I own a few Glocks,2 are the 43 & 43X.

I bought the 43 first and then the 43 X when it came out due to the better grip and higher capacity.

Now I have what Glock SHOULD HAVE MADE,after market STEEL magazines that hold 15 rounds for the 43 X !!.

You should [ and I did ] change the magazine release to the new metal one to assure it does not wear out on the STEEL magazines.

Now I have a 43 X that holds as many rounds as my 19,but in a smaller package !!.

The 43 is still a GREAT CCW gun when you want DEEP cover.

I was just confused because the 19x mags do work in a 19. But, a 43x mag does not work in a 43.

Glock has no need to care about me as I am a revolver guy through and through. I thought I would post here to ask you experts in the auto world what happened.

Thank you for the informative replies.

The Glocks 19 and 43 had been my EDC guns for years, and then in January of this year I decided to try the G48 with Shield 15 round magazines. Just for fun, I threw my 43 slide on the 48 frame to mock up a 43x. I found that configuration, light, very comfortable in the hand, pointable, and having G19 capacity with a negligible difference in recoil. Just like that, my G19 has been dethroned as my primary EDC gun (though it still pulls night stand duty).

IMO Glock really did good with the 43x. They took a proven design and enlarged the grip to what many, many people say fits their hands perfectly. And 11 rounds is enough for for most people too. (I prefer 18:D) The 43x got me hooked on Glocks and I have 1200+ rounds through one with all kinds of ammo with zero hiccups.

To me the question is why didn’t Glock come out with the 43x first. Generally though, Glock does a bunch of backwards, weird things but I still really like their guns.

As has been noted in other threads, Glock knew exactly what it was doing when it came out with the 48 and 43X. Dedicated 10-round capacity for the now numerous states mandating 10-round magazines. Only reason I bought the 43X was because my state had legislation pending restricting everyone (including off-duty law enforcement) to 10-rounds or less. And I have found that the 43X is a great pistol in its own right, even though we can still pack unlimited capacity mags up here (for now). The pistol conceals superbly and shoots very, very well. To the extent that I bought another for one of my daughters.

Legal question:

Would a Glock 43X be legal to sell in a state or country (thinking Canada) with a ten round capacity requirement if Glock made a 15rd Magazine for it. At that point the 43X would not be limited by the manufacturer to 10 rounds.
Might that be a consideration for a manufacturer? Just asking.

Great point.

And the least Glock could do is as other manufacturers do,OFFER FACTORY higher cap mag's.

Problem is that Glock has NO STEEL/METAL magazines at all.

I would love to see how many rounds could be loaded in a Glock 19/17 with a metal magazine ?.

This goes for ALL Glocks 30/30S/30SF,.29,26/27,20,34/35,---- you get the idea.

I see the draw to something like a G43x or G48 but other than being thin, I don't really see any advantages. I think for carry the G26 is the better option because for one, it will recoil less and two, it can take longer G19 and G17 mags, plus despite being a bit thicker, I think it carries better because it's shorter top to bottom than the G43x or G48.

I often pocket carry because it's just more convenient than dressing up for concealment and I've had a G42, a G43, a G43x and the G26/27/33 sub compacts. The G43X doesn't work for pocket use at all because the grip is the same length as a G19/23. The G42, which I still have, shoots the best of them all. The G43 is better for concealment but again, the G42 is smaller and lighter and shoots better. I can carry my G27 in the pocket much easier than a G43X which is why I say the G26 makes more sense.

Owning all the Glocks mentioned here,I see your point.

BUT imagine if you will, that same G-26 with steel magazines that "could" hold a good deal more rounds [ I think ] and stand up better too .
