God help me!!! I'm starting to like Glocks...

Read through this a few times... take your time to read carefully. take your time to read carefully.
http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/gindex.html Then after you are finished, rethink about just what it is you like about Glocks...

Dean is known as the biggest Glock basher around, and he has been accused of some questionable stuff such as picturing a KB'd Glock on his site without noting the aftermarket bbl on it, but there is some balance at his there.

He notes he sometimes carries a G-21, competes with it yearly at the GSSF at his home range and is a life member of the Glock Shooting Sports Foundation. Also notes he is a fan of the Glock 30.

Weird feud

The Gun Zone is a pretty poor source of information regarding Glocks or any other firearms. It's pretty generally known that Dean Speir, of The Gun Zone, is not only incompetent and ignorant about firearms, but is also a prevaricator. Before he finally removed it, due to numerous complaints, he was showing a picture of a blown-up Glock that obviously had an aftermarket barrel, saying that Glock was somehow responsible. Going to The Gun Zone? Reader beware!

I have never been able to understand why some people tend to place looks and some kind of "cool factor" above reliability and and the real issues involved in what is needed in a carry gun.

I would much rather have an "ugly" gun that works everytime over a nice polished wooden grip pistol that may not work.

Of course there is a false assumption at the bottom of the above opinionating. Namely, that good looking or cool is mutually exclusive of reliability.

Many Glock detractors simply believe their own eyes that their non-Glock pistols work just fine, (reliability). They also refuse to believe that they are so panicky that they will "forget" a safety lever, or that their chosen sidearm is just a few ounces shy of a ton, or that it will corrode if they don't watch it every second, ("real" issues in carry guns).

Naturally then, those who have nice wooden gripped pistols that work everytime ask themselves why someone would settle for mere ugly functionality when style and functionality can be readily bought instead.

I'd rather have a SIG, CZ, or 1911 than a Glock. Life is too short for any ugly Austrian pistol with a poor grip angle.

Ok. I think I'm over it now. Looks like I'll be swapping my XD40 for a friend's XD9 and ordering up some extra XD40 mags. I went to the range at lunch today with his pistol and my mags and convinced myself that the XD40 mags WILL work reliably in the XD9. I still might pick up a used G17 for kicks, but I think the XD will be my 3gun pistol.

My mother is like that about Glocks--she will not use or own one because she thinks they're ugly. She likes her wood-gripped revolvers.

Here's my solution for folks who like good-looking guns but who want a reliable carry gun that shoots well:

1. Buy yourself the most beautiful, rosewood-gripped, silver-plated gun you can afford, while still holding back about $550.
2. Mount beautiful gun in a shadow box and hang it on the wall.
3. Take the $550 and buy yourself a Glock 30 for a carry gun.
4. Live happily ever after.

:D

My first semi-auto pistol was a Glock. I bought hook, line, and sinker into the marketing, hype, and capacity.

Then I moved on... (Other things to buy hook, line, and sinker into out there after all...) ;)

Years later and knowing enough to look beyond the marketing, hype, and capacity I can honestly say they are fine, servicable pistols.

Who knows, maybe I'll add another one to my collection one of these days?

What kind of caliber is the 10mm? I've heard a lot about it but I don't know what the caliber would feel like for kick. Is it really as good as the hype? I love Glocks myself and I'm currently waiting for my state to allow new Glocks in -- the 19 & 26 models are on my list as is the 30...but what does the 10mm feel like? A .357, 9mm, .22?

I thought my Ruger Ps weren't fugly enough, so I ordered a G34.

Well, you know, I have to have something to pass on to the little guy when he turns 21... In 21 years! All I got was a ball 'n cap 45 colt.

Best gun in the world. Bar none. Functionality is beautiful. I have thousands and thousands of rounds out of my G22, 23, and 27 without a single malfunction. Good enough for me.

cornbread2,

I would much rather have an "ugly" gun that works everytime over a nice polished wooden grip pistol that may not work.

Me too.

I'd also prefer a "nice polished wooden grip" pistol that works every time over an "ugly" gun that works every time.

Beware of false dichotomies. ;)

(BTW: The Glock in my safe works fine. So does the Springfield on my hip. Neither is pretty. My Les Baer works fine, and is pretty, but is not really set up as a CCW piece. Whatever...)

Relax, there is hope.

After shooting my brother's new mini-Glock this fall, I too began to wonder... You know, great reliability (which I prize), consistent trigger, pretty indestructible, etc.

But then I came to my senses and bought something else instead.

Still, there's this little nagging voice in the back of my head. No, there isn't. Really. I will never buy a Glock.

Probably.

That's what I said, I'd never own a glock.
Then I shot a buddy's G20.
Less that two years later, I owned his gun.

I like Glocks! BUT! My brand new G17 had a FTE the first round fired through the gun. I continue to get double-feeds and FTE's about 1 time out of every hundred rounds no matter what ammo I use. In contrast, I have put 13,000 rounds through my XD 9 without a single FTF, FTE or anything else. THAT is what I consider reliable. My Glock sits unfired in my safe now because it inspires no confidence in me whatsoever. I like Glocks, but I love the Springfield XD! Proof is in the pudding! just my .02.

It is useless to resist us :).

Shoot one, you'll understand.

I understood well enough that I sold all but one.

What I understand is that what floats my boat may not be best for someone else.

The world is full of accurate, reliable handguns; understand that there is no One True Sword. ;)

Glock. Shoot one, You'll understand.

Shiner Bock: Fad beer, popular with college kids still seeking enlightenment.

Glock: Fad gun, popular with LEO purchassing agents and gang bangers who will find enlightenment.

I'll stick to my 1911 and Ziegenbach, thank you.
