Good hunting ammo for 7mm Mag

I don't hunt in Africa (I wish) but I do hunt a similar range of North American game with a 7mm Rem Mag. I hunt whitetail and mule deer as well as elk, the occassional black bear. Hopefully we'll get to eastern Montana to hunt pronghorn someday soon and that would be the rifle too. And it has been known to take a couple prarie whistlers just because I don't have what most people would consider a real varmint rifle. I handload 160 gr Nosler Accubonds and they've worked fine for deer. Never taken an elk with them. If I had an doubts concerning penetration I would go with a 175 gr Partition and error on the side of caution. If you don't handload look at the Federal and Winchester Partition and Accubond loadings. That would be a good place to start.

My wife and I have not been to Africa yet (hopeful) but she uses a 160 grain, Speer Grand Slam over a maximum charge of RL-22 for almost all of her big game hunting here in Idaho. I'm cautious about recommending powder charges to people. I'll just say this - in my wife's rifle, a semi-custom Model 70 Winchester 7mm Rem Mag, a maximum charge of RL-22 as listed in Speer Manual #13, behind a 160 grain Speer Grand Slam, shows no signs of excessive pressure. It averages 2955 fps from her 25 inch barrel and it puts 3 bullets in 3/4" at 100 yards. It's deadly on coyotes, antelope, mule deer, and elk, but I believe we might work up a load for the 175 grain Speer Grand Slam if and when my wife draws on Moose. ;)
