Can someone give me a recommendations for a rifle bullet suitable for Texas hogs? I'm shooting a 7mm rem mag. I imagine a 140 gr NBT wouldn't be advisable on dangerous game.

Cheap Remington corelokts. But I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one with a NBT. It's not Cape Buffalo.

I found the statement clear and yet cleaver at the same time. Hmmm
Some rifles handle heavier bullets well, and some don't. Accuracy is important.
I think I would go with a heavier bullet, if you don't agree that is ok.

I shoot 150 game king in my 7. Had one HUGE hog that load didn't exit, but it killed it dead. Was a friend using it. In order to get full penetration on a really BIG hog, I'd suggest a Barnes X in 140ish or a 160 partition. That partition is accurate in my gun and Federal's Premium version of it is decent if you want factory stuff.
Anything that'll kill a deer will kill a hog up to 300 pounds until they start getting that gristle armor over their shoulders. Then, some deer bullets may fail. The Game King has really violent expansion on deer. Using a premium bullet is good insurance IMHO.
Hogs can bite back if cornered, but I really don't think of 'em as "dangerous game", not in the Lion, Buffalo, Africa big five sense anyway.

The Core lokt qualifies as a well constructed bullet.
Lb for Lb I'd say that a mature boar hog is every bit as tough as a cape buffalo. They just don't have the attitude to go along with it like a buff does.
Much like thick skinned DG big boars will soak up an amazing amount of lead when wounded and adrenalinesed.
I don't consider hogs to be DG either but they sure are good practice for DG hunting. I find the shooting situations and the terrain and cover to very similar to what we hunt buff and elephant in.

Or, you can shoot 'em in the little clear area behind the ear. Just look for it, you'll see it. Trust me, no tracking. I killed a 400 pounder near Sabinal, TX a few years back and all we had to do was back up and load him, with some help. I do shoot a 7STW with 150 gr Trophy Bonded Bear claw in case I need the penetration, but I usually decide I don't want to track a big pig through thick brush and wait for the drop shot.
Oh, and another bit of advice, cycle that action (which you should always do) and get ready for them to creep back in. A lot of times if there is a loud bang and nothing runs off to spook them, they'll come back. Especially if you're hunting over corn or feed.

175 Remington Core-Lokt works well on hogs in the 7 Mag, as does the 160 Nosler Partition. There is no such thing as too much gun for hogs.

Somehow i doubt that TX hogs are much different from OK hogs. Most of my hogs have been killed with a muzzleloader. If the animal is within 50 yards i try to put the bullet in the ear or on a line with the ear and the eye. Any hit in this area is going to put the hog down.
A hog is not built like a deer. A hogs heart sits very low. If the hog is broadside at more than 50 yards, i put the bullet low behind the front leg. Sometimes i will shoot them in the shoulder. Over 90 percent of my hog kills have been bang flops. Some bullets have penetrated the animal, others did not: It matters not to me because the hog is not going very far when i shoot it.
My favorite shot on hogs is quartering away.

Some hogs die right at the location you shot them if you are able to hit that ear area you mention alsaqr. Some run away and are found later if you are lucky. Good way is to track um down with a dog. Dogs are great to have, problem there is they sometimes die on you. Then you start with a new one or borrow a friends, pretty big responsibility though.
I have seen on occasion others get the hog and claim the shot as their own, maybe they did shoot it when it was weak, then it was theirs. Or they happen upon it and claim it...Those instances are tricky, dogs are good to show who really shot it. Blood trail and all.

The cheap remi's are ideal. As they are cheapest good quality bullet out there.

Only problem with the behind the ear shot is that they have to offer it to you. Unless you are hunting over a feeder it's darn near impossible to get yourself a brain shot on a hog with any regularity.
It just doesn't happen with spot and stalk or jump shooting hardly ever.

IF YOU ARE STAND HUNTING over a bait, waterhole, wallow, frequented area, in or around a place that holds game, up to but not excluding, feed, water, natural attractants, non natural attractants, sexual pheromone spray, natural or otherwise, gin trap, quicksand, hypnotherapy, bright lights, certain types of soothing music, not limited to or otherwise able to stop hogs. Any and all methods of making a hog hold still and posing for a side brain shot from a good rest with any rifle, pistol, arrow, or other object slinging device.
Not to include methods where the range to the hog and the position of the hog and the hogs motion and direction at the time of the shot is not necessarily known or guarantied like it is in the above mentioned methods.
And doing so from a fixed position.

That pretty well covers it except for the case where the hog looks directly at the shooter, bow hunter, slingshot operator, rock chunker or spear thrower.
