Well, that too …

But to follow up on your comment in post #75, has anyone ever known someone who, subsequent to having actually had to draw, display or use a handgun in a real-life situation, then thereafter begin to carry smaller, lighter handguns with less capacity?

My little grab and go gun is a BUG only. Full size Glock is on me 16 hours a day and the only question is if I want a little, emergency back up gun.

99% of the time I have a G17 or G26. the few times when I'm doing things that require lighter smaller guns as my only carry option its the 342PD Ti (with lock removed of course) or the LWS32. 81725239_679932025874405_298558174770757632_n.jpg 81725239_679932025874405_298558174770757632_n.jpg Seecamp 32 (2).JPG Seecamp 32 (2).JPG

No offense to anyone, but this whole "grab & go gun" concept strikes me as the product of a close cousin to the mindset wherein people fantasize that there are "safe" places where violence somehow doesn't happen.

if that were the case, no one would grab a gun.

what did you not understand?

The comment was about a "mindset wherein people fantasize that there are "safe" places where violence somehow doesn't happen".

Your replied,

If what were the case?

Why would "no one grab a gun" if there were indeed such places?

yes, if people answering this original posting thought there were safe places, why would they grab a gun? the answer is they know there are no safe places, which is why they grab a gun.....

On the other hand, can people employ strategies others would find inadequate, and be as safe, or even safer than those more heavily or consistently armed? Or is their personal history and situational awareness merely whistling past the graveyard?

Actually, a lot of our posters do seem to believe, erroneously of course, that there are places in which carrying a gun is unnecessary.

It is when they are going to other places that they "grab a gun".

I'm not sure that that is uncommon behavior.

then I misunderstood the premise of this thread. I thought it was instead of your usual ccw, what is your grab and go gun for things like yard work, jogging, checking the mailbox while walking the dog..... as in something small and light that you can slip into a pocket quickly instead of suiting up like usual.

I think that would be valid conclusion if the OP hadn't specified suboptimal calibers

I think it would depend on what the strategies are. I live by the rule of stupids and the majority of my overall strategy is risk avoidance but I still won't carry less than a Glock 26 unless I have no other option because I've experienced what happens when all your risk management fails

How would you quantify the safety an individual experiences regardless of their carry strategy?

I'm sitting in my house/walking my dogs/running to the store or post office/taking a commercial flight. How can you tell if I'm safe?
