Granddaughter's First Range Trip

denton: She might be a good candidate for some regular Krav self-defense classes (mine began at age 65, now a spry 68). One of the ladies in my class is just 21.

If your granddaughter had time and interest for such training, it would help her to Instantly react to Any sudden situation (see a bad car wreck, person collapse from heart attack etc),
not just keep her from mentally freezing if a guy assaulted her, and then automatically counter-strike ....as needed.

Even wrist releases from a strong grab (a single wrist or both at the same time "Get in my truck!") are extremely simple, and these are mostly designed for women iirc.

A trainer said he had a woman student who always shot for the head.
He asked her why.
She said she was an ER nurse and had seen too many gangers come in shot in the chest and still fighting.

But I have seen a number of women go for the head. Seems a gender bias.
I was amazed at how quickly she picked it up. All I did was coach her on safety, stance, and such and she was off to the races.

Good job Grandpa! Just surprised it took you so long. Probably a good reason tho. I am lucky, my grandkids live in the same town and their parents own the property where I have built a personal shooting range. They have been shooting with me since they could hold a firearm.....and yes, while none of them shoot competitively, they are all dam good shots. Not only with firearms, but with archery too. Have already passed down a few guns to them too. Kind of what it is all about.....passing it on.

Again, good job!

Good for you Denton !
A grandniece got a Winchester Wildcat .22 rifle for Christmas but, as she isn't quite yet 11. her mom and new dad are keeping it for her. It turns out she's something of a tomboy, unlike her fraternal twin brother and older teen half-brother. Both boys, esp. the teen, have already been "indoctrinated" enough that neither is interested in guns or hunting.
I may have to change my will if she keeps up with this.

You are a good grangpa but what took you so long? Just kidding. Sometimes it depends on when the kid is ready. I am on to great grand kids now and the 15 year old started giving me a run for the money when she was twelve. I got her started with a Daisy Buck BB gun when she was only five. She is a natural and I call her "eagle eye" when we go to the range. Her twelve year old sister is following in her footsteps. She is now "deadeye" when shooting. It causes big smiles and the younger one had about the same reaction as your grand daughter the first time she started hitting her target.

There are three young ones in the lineup but I have turned the physical part over to my oldest grandson and I just watch and give tips now----plus furnish a lot of 22 rimfire ammo.

She looks happy and shoots very well! Good job. She should hang it in her dorm room.
