Instead of paying money to have a veneer of rubber on my dress shoes, would grip tape work? Has anyone tried this? And it's something I can do myself.

Slipping on a wet surface is untactical.

Skunky,

You mean to tell me that you actually take off your Oakley tactical boots? :neener:

esheato...

Theres a product made, some kinda rubber derivative, for dipping tool handles in for better grip. I know it comes in a few colors, I'm sure it can be had in Dark Tactical.

It's probably not super longlasting, but how often do you wear dress shoes?

I wear dress shoes at least 5, mostly 7 days/week. I try to practice shooting from my back in case I fall. Let me know how your experiment goes if you do it.

esheato, actually I don't even own Oakleys  (Danners for the skunk)

El Tejon, dress shoes = CDI? ;)

I tried that when I was a little kid a couple of times.

I think the original goal was to be able to walk up a tree, but the tape never lasted long enough for me to walk over to it.

You don't want to wear anything that is actually sticky on your feet because it will just pick up all the dirt/dust/cardboard/toiletpaper/etc. that it comes into contact with, and just about all of that stuff makes for less traction than regular shoe rubber.

I wear Clarks. Leather upper, rubber sole. Properly fit, they feel like sneakers. Bummer that they run $100 per pair.

This one is pretty, and is in tactical black:

Get some Plasti-dip. It works great on shoes. I’ve used it on rubber and leather boots with great success. Just make sure the soles of your shoes are really cleaned before applying. Use a small parts brush to apply it and apply a few thin layers (let dry between layers) instead of one thick layer.

Red Wings, Bayby

Red Wing makes some quality dress shoes with sticky soles.

They also make some low-rise boots that, with a little bit of Kiwi, pass for dress shoes. I have a pair on now. It took three years of 5 days/week wear to wear them to the point where they needed to be resoled ($150/3 years=$50/year for work shoes).

I got that pair resoled and bought another pair, so I can rotate them. I'm fit for work shoes for the nest 6 years. Oh, and Red Wings are mighty comfy.

My dogs are happy to have quality footgear.

Bostonian makes a rubber soled dress shoe, that won't break the bank. I wear dress shoes 4 days out of the week, and the black pair I bought has gone 4 years now. Ecco also makes a very comfortable dress shoe with a rubber sole.

That's what I wear. They look acceptable, feel very comfortable, and they've got steel toes. Try to find that in a dress shoe.

Skunk

There is a product made that is an oval piece of thin rubber that has a no slip surface made especially to stick to the bottom of leather soled dress shoes. You can usually find it in the shoe care section of most department stores. I have tried it and found it works well but sometimes you need to add a touch or two of "Crazy Glue" to help it stay on. I have had great success with cutting a piece of 3M stair tape (or skateboard tape) and placing it on the soles. I even put it on the bottom of Ruber soled shoes after the wear smooth after awhile.
