Finally they came right out and said it on ABC this morning. That, and "30 round ammo clips are basically dead". Now, we all suspect this was the case, but what I'm posting about is it's NOW being said on National news. Hopefully this will help cut down on the panic so the rest of us can afford to buy guns/parts/ammo again without overpaying like so many horders are doing.

On a similar note, they also mention the UBC likely won't stand on it's own and will likely be reduced to online sales and gun shows. Leave the serial numbers out of the paperwork and that seems reasonable. I may be a minority, but I DO believe in some of the background checks. Not tracing arms, but making it harder for criminals without tracking the rest of us sounds like a good thing if it were an option, but I'm quite sure tracking serials is the main reason for the checks so all my agreeing would be moot.

that depends what state you live in :(

I hope UBC dies as well. You say leave SN out of it but we all know the requirement would be use a FFL and fill out a 4473.

Hopefully we can get the UBC shot down too.

Jefferson said that "Error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it," which is one of the many things I love about THR, that is, it encourages differences of opinion.

Background checks will require a photo ID. So look on the bright side. If they want to required a photo ID to exercise a fundamental right, there should now be no objections to requiring photo IDs to vote.

The attempts to limit the second amendment are never “dead”. The people pushing for these bans know they can never get them at one time, no they use every tragedy to chip away eroding our rights. Dead, no just regrouping for the next attack.

I guarantee that none of the 'common sense, reasonable' attempts at new gun laws is going away any time soon, unfortunately. As long as there are stupid politicians, there will be stupid laws.

So that means the anti's have raised the white flag, thrown in the towel, left with their tail between their legs?
Hardly, we have lost a great deal this year and the only bright side I can see is that the enemy has shown it's stripes and their actions may have woken a sleeping giant.
I only hope that there is proof now of the progressive agenda in this country and what their views of freedom are.

The prices of AR's and AK's at the Ft. Pierce gun show yesterday, were averaging $1000.00. This was the general price for a new AR or AK, from a dozen different manufacturers. The Company I bought an AR from 2 yars ago, quoted me the same price, "about" that I paid then. There are exceptions to the rules, "small independent guys", still trying to make a score, but no one is buying from them. The worse part was by far ammo, They were selling ammo by the case for a dollar a round, in 9mm.
I looked for an hour to find some Hornaday Red tip hollow points, finally paid $32 for a box of 20, which wasn't the highest by far. One guy sold out while I was looking at another counter. Everyone had the same complaint, the ammo was preventing them from enjoying their guns. I saw one guy selling a box of 100 45's for $55, that was the cheapest I have seen all year. I should have grabbed it, but went there for other reasons, and couldn't spend another 55 on ammo.
It's getting ridiculous, for a man to shoot anymore.
I for one can't afford $150 per week to practice. I limit myself to once a month.

That is on a federal level. There are still states out there molesting the freedom of law abiding citizens. See CO, CT, CA, MA, IL

I may be a minority, but I DO believe in some of the background checks.

We already have them in place and they don't even prosecute when criminals try to get around it. 44 prosecutions out of 10k+ denials. Now some of them are legitimate mistakes, but not that kind of disparity.

I don't about your state but here in Texas I cannot sell a firearm to a prohibited person in at a gun show. If I do I get to go to jail. So where is this hole. The laws still apply regardless if you hold a FFL or not.

The laws are in place. Its enforcement of them thats missing and passing more laws won't do a thing. Nada. Zilch. Its like closing the barn door after the animals have left.

To get back on track, I never mentioned "we were in the clear". I only passed on what was said on National news. I'm hoping this will ease "the sky is falling" crowd into a bit of relaxation so shelves and prices may heads toward normal, or at least affordable and better stocked. I'll never let my guard down as the next round is right around the corner, but it's a breath of fresh air for a moment at least.

According to Gallup polls over the last 50 years, support for the proposition to ban handguns has gone from 60% support to 73% opposition. More telling to me is that the Undecided opinion has gone from 4% to 1%.

I think the exploitation of the Newtown atrocity may well prove to be the last gasp of the gun ban movement. Not that they will give up: the Temperance Union is still around 80 some years after federal Prohibition was repealed.

I hope people will see gun control for what it is: an unproductive moral panick stampede like the Satanic Ritual Abuse scare or bans on comic books.

(And if they had banned those 30 round magazine clips, once the bullets were all fired out of them, no body would have bullets left to shoot according to Senator Diane DeGette D-CO.)

I live in Texas. The last gun I bought was at a gunshow late last year. I showed my DL and walked out with a used Winchester in mint condition and the only paperwork was a short stack of hundreds supplied by me. You must be talking about handguns or new?

Also realize, that the charge has beern led for decades by Biden, McCarthy, Feinstein, Lautenberg, and Schumer. With the possible exception of Schumer, all of these people are about to retire. (Lautenberg is 88.) they know they don't have time to wait until the next time when they hold both houses and the White House. this is their last shot. After they are gone.....who will bring these bills up for every lgeislative session?

Unfortunately that is true, there are several States ( we all know which ones) that have enacted ) more stringent Laws than even the Fed wanted and by the way, they are now going after Ammo, (which I thought they would a couple of Years ago) It Ain't Over!!!!!!;)
God Bless Texas!

Yes, we can not let our guard down. As we speak (type) there are politicians on both the Federal and State levels trying to make deals that will enable stricter gun control laws. They will never stop trying if they sense there is any political benefit to them. A strong message needs to be sent in ALL future elections, but especially 2104, and 2016. Any politician that votes for or shows any support for more restrictive gun laws needs to lose their job, period. That is all they understand.

Many politicians think the country has changed since 1994, and more people now want gun control. Let's show them they are wrong.

You are abslutely correct! Remember in 2014, when you go to vote, where these lovely grabs at your guns come from.
A vote for a Democrat is a vote to give up your guns.
Period!

Alcohol is controlled, and I need an ID to buy it, but if I'm at a party and a buddy runs out of beer, I shouldn't have to go back to the store and let them check my buddy's ID too before I can give him one of my beers.

Alcohol kills far more people in this country than guns.

I hate to think this way, but am I the only one thinking that now we will see another tragedy? You know, another reason for the bans?

If so, my tin foil hat will become permanently attached to my head.

The media used this tactic in 1994 too. Beating the drum for gun control and why they thought it needed to be law they also told us all the Clinton Gun ban would not go through in hopes of our sitting back and doing nothing. It worked, we relaxed it passed by a narrow margin. No time to relax gang. Make your voice heard in Washington DC. You can call toll free thanks to Bloomberg. No, You are not the only one, it's just a question of WHEN and the same Crap will start all over.:banghead:

The efforts have STALLED. Whether they are killed or not depends on the elections next year. The most important elections in a generation.
