just when I thought REI would be a good place to pick up some elk hunting gear.

I'm a REI member and will e-mail them with my thoughts. Based on the comments section in the above link they are already getting an earful. I've always been VERY pleased with my purchases from them in the past. I've found their staff to be much more knowledgeable about gear than most "hunting" related sales people in other stores. And I've never had a negative experience even though I made it clear the gear I was buying was intended for hunting. Their prices vs quality are pretty good too. Especially with a 10% dividend each year on purchases.

I'll not give up on them yet. Lets see how this works out.

I wrote them and told them I think they’re misguided in their approach.

As for the company itself, there’re few better for how they treat customers right, how they value their workforce, and the value/quality you get with your money.
