Gunbroker AK, what do you think?

you should be able to get her a bit cheaper by building your own. says its filled with romanian guts, so in that sense you can get a WASR-10 for half the price and toss the same accessories on there for 200. looks like thats what the guy did and is selling it with a $100 markup for himself. others may argue with me but thats my opinion. buy a cheap/plain one and customise it to YOUR liking, buying one like that robs you from the satisfaction of personalizing your own.

Price is a little high but gun is okay

I think his price is a little high but its a decent gun so if you don't want to be bothered with building your own, I'd go for it. Some folks love to build their own. I like to get what I want on the gun when I buy it. I find that ordering parts and paying postage usually gets to the point where you've spent as much as if you'd have just bought the whole gun like you wanted it to begin with.

If you like the gun and the guy is willing to give you an inspection period where you can return the gun for a refund if you don't like what you get then I'd go for it and just buy it.

My 2 cents. I'm sure others will have different opinions. Read the comments and then do what makes you happy.

For that price you can probably get an Arsenal
Yup! In that neighborhood anyway, and Arsenal is very nice quality.
I really hate when someone tarts up an AK with AR type buttstocks-it looks way too bubba tacky.

I agree. It looks like someone tried to turn their AK into an AR. I prefer the traditional AK look.

agreed, leave the AR parts on AR's and so-forth. isnt a folding AK stock good enough? i dont even agree with AR stocks on shotguns.

+1. It seems a bit high pricewise, but if you're into cash & carry, there's nothing wrong with that I suppose. AK's are generally pretty common, so I'd think that you could find one at your local shop for cheaper, but I could be wrong.

And as for the AR-style furniture, and the foregrip - it's an AK, for god's sake! Gimme the basics and leave it alone!

Not a bad rifle. Most of the time when I've heard people calling the Wasr's into question they have referenced the receiver. This guy used an Ohio ordinance so I wouldn't be worried about it's Romanian origins. That said, yeah, it feels good to have something you built yourself.

the most ranted topic ive noticed on the WASR is the canted front sight tip. but its an easy fix, because NOTHING looks cooler on an AK than a red dot.

I'm glad I am not the only one. Maybe someone can fill me in on why they would want to do that. Seriously. Not trying to be a jerk, I really am curious. I love the AR platform, and am thinking about an AK variant, but why mix the two?

Well Maurice it could be that they have different taste than you, hard to imagine I know.

Or they could desire a stock like that for practical reasons.

Or perhaps one of a dozens other reasons. Everyone has their own taste and I wont question yours for hating it, but is it really so hard to imagine why some one might put a telescoping stock on an AK?

I like the idea of a telescoping stock to keep it compact. The folding stocks that I have used are very uncomfortable to me, otherwise, I would consider one.

You can do more with a starter AKM and then trick it out to your taste. I'd first put this toe to toe with an equivalent Lancaster or Vector build. You should also consider a Saiga conversion especially if you're close to SLC.

If you are, I'd suggest a trip to Vector and FBMG. Then go to Boyce Equipment and trade in your minivan for a deuce-and-a-half.

I'm pretty close to SLC (45 min.). How would that help me with a Saiga conversion?

Regarding SLC:

There are a few members of the AKforum and the Saiga 12 forum that could help you with a conversion if you want to complete your own kit build.

Also, I strongly suggest that you visit the FBMG store as they will have several options in an AK derivative that will fit your budget. There, you can get a better feel for your ideal AK vs. glancing at a few photos on GB.com.

Yup. Thats what I did. Was basically the same set-up (just different brands of furniture and what not) and itwas fun, cheap, and looked and worked great. Only recently put it back to original wood, as I have an M4-gery now, so I have the "evil black rifle" look covered, and wanted the WASR back to the traditional look.

I want to disagree with those that are saying build your own.

I looked into this a while back, and was determined to do so.

If you want to do it right, however, you will have to get proper tools. You may have some, but likely you will not have the task-specfic ones.

You could plan on spending an extra $200-$300 on tools.

If you are doing ONE build, you just won't come out ahead. If you are doing a dozen, well sure.

Either find a build party near you (which NEVER happened around me) or buy the one you want pre-built.
