I bought a bunch of pistol rugs on eBay last year. I store each handgun in its own rug with a label-maker label on the front. Most-frequently shot guns go on the top shelf, seldom-shot in the middle, collector guns on the bottom.

How ever you store them...check them often... I just had a corrosion problem, all based on my stupidity, that I am still so pissed off about...I can just barely see!!!

Most of mine are kept on the door on a pegboard that I installed. The hooks have a rubber hose over them to prevent the guns from getting scratched. Ones that don't fit on the door are either in boxes or on the carpet lined floor/shelves.....

I just have mine on the shelf. Though it's a fireproof safe, so the shelf stuff is a molded plastic-like material. I'm not sure if I would want to leave them right on a metal shelf for fear of scratching.

As for laying them on a silicon cloth, I don't think that would be a good idea as it would collect any oil from the gun or moisture within the safe.

To control moisture, I have a silicon pack that came with the safe, along with one I bought at the store.

Figure when not recently shot, I'll go in and wipe them down with a silicone cloth every few weeks, and that should keep them in good condition.

Inside pistol rugs - Bore Stores, to be exact. I'm after every ounce of corrosion protection that I can get, plus you only have to have one "rugged" gun fall off the shelf to appreciate the padding.

Kudos Kramer. Nicely done! Well since I just took delivery of my first safe Yesterday Im still experimenting. I feel so dirty not being a virgin anymore!
OK back to the discussion. I got a really good deal on pistol pocket setups. It is basiclly a mat that connects to the inside of the door and you have these pocket holsters that attached using velcro so you can move them around wherever. I have 10 pockets. I also have a few in cases and a few loose in the safe,

I just stuff them in some old socks...

and pile them on the shelf. Not enough room to store them in their boxes. Not that many anyway.......chris3

A few are in gun socks, mostly the silicone kind. Some are loose.

One is in the factory box. Most didn't come with a nice box. I've kept a few in rugs, but only in synthetic fabrics, in a dry place, with the guns well-oiled.

I have a blue revolver that was oiled up and kept in a rug for 20+ years and it looks like new.

It's not humid here, though.

both my 1911 and police positive sit on the shelf in there holsters oiled one of them is allways loaded so its easier to just grab it when i answer the door. i also keep a couple of those little rust inhibitor strips on the shelf with them

I just have my handguns in pistol rugs for protection. I have them packed in very tightly due to lack of space and its the only way I can fit everything in the safe.
Off course, here in Colorado we have a very dry climate and I don't have to
worry much about the pistol rugs trapping moisture, If anything we almost need a humidifier certain times of the year because its too dry.

You all OBVIOUSLY have more room in your safes....

than i do.
Mine are boxed, holstered, rugged or artfully stacked in the shelves. Whole row of SAs underpinning a stack of holstered and rugged on top. More or less by manufacturer.

PS...you need all of the above for a poll choice...

My safe isn't actually a gun safe.
Mine is a simply a small floor safe and the opening isn't large enough to accomodate a factory hard case. Before I put it away, the gun gets a standard cleaning and oiling and slipped into a rug. Its the only way to get it in. Luckily, the climate here is very dry and rust isn't an issue. No ground water reaches the safe (which is waterproof anyway) so condensation is no big deal.
Long guns get trigger locks and stored in a more "hidden" spot.

I use a kitchen pot lid rack. It is plastic coated metal and I have 9 pistols in 14 inches of shelf space. It is Ideal - almost like it was designed for the job. I warn you though, this is an expensive solution. I paid about $9.00 at Lowes. I am leery of storing any of my guns in gun rugs as gun rugs can collect condensation.

Handguns are stored in several ways, with most being stored in their
factory cases; but wrapped in "Sack Ups". Other HD type guns being
of stainless steel (handguns) are simply placed on a shelf. I do use
pistol rugs occassionally; but I always place the handgun in a "Sack
Up" before inserting it into the pistol rugs. I only have two long guns
(a Remington 870 Marine Magnum and a Colt M4A3 .223) that just are
stood up in the safe~!:D

I have a small 3 cu.ft. safe. If a semi-auto handgun is loaded, it's inside of a holster. If it's not in a holster, I pull the trigger before laying it down. Smaller handguns set side-by-side grip-up inside a tupperware container and larger models lay on the one shelf or criss-crossed in the big drawer.

Oh to have a real gun safe.... sigh !
