Never made, but I did come close once.
When CCW first became legal here in Texas, I took a trip down to South Padre Island on the coast with my then girlfriend. While I was down there I found a surf shop that did custom warm up pullovers with all of these wild colorful patterns. This was basically a super lightweight non-zipping windbreaker that you pulled over to put on. It has an elastic waist.
Well my CCW brain was humming in overdrive and I thought it would be a great idea to buy a few of these things on size too big in the most NON-tactical configurations I could dream up (read wild looking).
Just the ticket for concealing my snubby .41 Magnum in its shoulder rig in the North Texas Summer with shorts.
Well, one night I was at a Mexican restaurant with a guy I know and this beautiful woman came over and put her hand on the backstrap of my shoulder rig and said, "I love this pull over...where on earth did you get it?" I alyly took her hand and answer her question as my heart pounded from her beauty and almost getting MADE!
One situation is if you have a family that is very affectionate. If they hug a lot there are only two holsters you can do this and get away with hugging. A standard strongside belt holster only works for semi-casual hugging if you instinctively go to put your arms around the woman's waist when the hugs begins...they will put their arms automatically around your neck. This has never failed me.
If you want to be 100% sure on semi-casual hugs get one of the small of back rigs from Andy Arratoonian at Horseshoe Leather Products. Unless your family puts their hands just above your rear end you'll be fine.
Anything more intimate requires honesty.
I speed a lot and have been stopped by police in Arlington, Euless, Fort Worth, and Irving, Texas. Not to mention the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). I was always respectful, handed them my CHL with my driver's license, and asked them how they wanted to handle it. In every case I was simply asked to keep my hands on the wheel, but one. That one was just after CCW became legal. The trooper asked me to stand where I could see him with my hands at my side.
Not once was I disarmed.
Although in Irving the officer asked me if my particular carry mode was working well for me and asked where he could get a shoulder rig like mine.
Show respect and you will receive it in return...at least in Texas.
