Has this picture appeared in Shotgun News?

A friend told me he saw it in a Shotgun News cover ad a few weeks ago...I am curious as to the context. It could have been something I approved...but I have my doubts.

I remember seeing that picture recently in Shotgun News, or Gun List. It was associated with an article concerning firearms ownership in other countries, if I recall correctly.

WooHoo... I smell a copywrite infringment, if indeed it was there, Oleg. I have a photographer friend going through a lawsuit himself bucause seven of his images were used in the 2006 Hawaiian Tropic calender without his permission.

It's on the cover of the April 7 GunList.
Have it right here in front of me. And it was Larry Grupp's article, "Over there: Private Ownership of Guns in Foreign Countries"
And the photo is credited to Oleg in the Table of Contents on page 4.

Rayra, thank you. That's my picture, indeed. I do not recall giving permission or even being asked about the use. A little rude, I think.

I agree. The photo-credit 'band-aid' in the table of contents doesn't quite cover it, either.
Worth at least a 'harrumph' email to'em.

I'll scan that table of contents page as well, when I get the thing working. I'll be pretty busy the next couple days digitally processing a couple hundred photos from the illegal immigration / amnesty march in Los Angeles today (fresh topic on the THR politics an dlegal forum)

Sadly no, my father was involved in one with his business and hired top
copyright lawyers out of Chicago to take his case. Let's just say the
lawyers cost more than the case ended up being worth to the judge.

You'd be better off having a cup of hot coffee fall off onto you from a stack
of Gunlist magazines.....

Problem is that Oleg has announced that his images can be used to further RKBA interests. Gun List could argue that that was what they were doing.

Not to hijack this thread, but here at work a BIG copyright problem just came up. USC football would send out game videos to anyone that requested it, at no charge, to the fans. Well, someone decided to burn copys and E-bay them. Now the USC legal dept is after them, and to make matters worse, they have wholesale stopped giving out game DVD's. One rectum in the crowd, and thousands have to suffer.

I am not in a punitive mood, but I would have been happier if they asked first and offered the customary licensing fee for the front-page use. Their use is, after all, more commercial than not.

Ask them for a free advertising spot in their magazine for your site selling
your shirts, posters, and stuff.

It's the least they should do.

Yes he does and Gunlists has fine tastes in photography. A few years ago, I posted an article- A review of one of Richard Poe's books. A month or so later, it showed up in the TSRA Sportsman. Richard Poe even used it to advertise his book. I was happy with both. On the occasions when somebody would e-mail me asking permission to do something similar with one of my articles, I've always told them to go ahead. So far as I know, none of the people who asked ever actually used the material.

I just talked with the Gun List editor Bryan Lovett. As expected, no ill intent was present. I may be able to be of help to them in the future with other images.

I dont know that I would lawyer up, just for the simple reason that it is in the promotion of RKBA and you have made it clear that it is ok for that purpose.

I would however contact the editor just to let them know you are paying attention and just simply ask why they thought it would be ok to use an image without permission.

I would be curious to hear the response.
