I did read a comment by a gun magazine writer to the effect that the 20 gauge was being made more irrelevant by the development of reduced recoil loads. Based on this comment, it's apparently not true for everyone.

Nope. It isn't. Remington introduced the 20 gauge version of their Express HD gun a year, maybe two years, ago. There has to be a reason for that.

Massad Ayoob (well respected firearms instructor, etc) has written a really good article on the use of 20 gauge shotguns. I think it really comes down to the Rem vs. the Mossberg. Both are excellent and solid. I personally like the tang safety location on the Mossberg.

The 20 gauges have less aftermarket options for it. Having extra ammo on it as well as a light on it would be my two biggest priorities. Luckily, Tac Star makes a 20 gauge side saddle.
