Heavy Hitter Carry Guns

I have a 340dp that I used to carry. that revolver has absolutely fierce recoil with full house 357s. it left my palm bruised for afew days after shooting it afew rounds in a pin match one evening.
stout 44 mags though a 629 don't even come remotely close to the recoil that gun has.

I love the gun, great carry gun but not a range toy.

I can't legally carry at the moment, moved from one state to another and haven't taken the classes, but when I did carry it was usually either a taurus 6" 44 mag, a Taurus 405 (moon clip 40sw 5 shot k frame-ish)2", Taurus pt99afs, 1911, 92fs, and most recently it had been my 4" 686-6. There was also a short time period where a glock17 was in the rotation but I truly hated that gun.

I have three 1911's. The two in 10mm are my main carry handguns. Also carry a spare magazine. The weight is not a problem for me.

This is how I actually think: our enemies are blowing themselves up and flying themselves into buildings, so I won't complain about carrying a full sized handgun. big_guns.jpg

These are my two most potent handguns. Both qualify as heavy and .357 mag hits pretty hard. Both are carried.

This is my heaviest hitter that I've carried. Only once, and needless to say it was in a seedy neighborhood, where my trusty primary and backups seemed insufficient. I wouldn't have even went there, but to pick up a friend for the last time. Normal primary is a Kimber UCDP in .45 ACP, night biking gun is Glock 26, woods gun is Glock 29, but since none of those are full-sized, I won't bore you with pics.

No pictures at the moment but this thread fits my current carry philosophy...A bit over a year ago when carrying on vacation in VA (I can't carry in MD due to near impossible CCW laws, but I have a UT non-res permit, and I'm in DE, WV or VA about once or twice a month) I realized that with my body type and how I dress I can carry a "compact" 4" double stack auto about as well as I can a micro-9 (yes, the compact is a bit tougher, but it conceals fine). So, my current primary carry is a .45ACP SIG P250 Compact, and after it gets another range trip my "new" (I got it last fall) CZ P01 will join it. Now, if MD goes shall issue (the issues in Peruta v. San Diego are similar to MD law so maybe Peruta will finally force MD's hand should the Supreme Court hear the case and decide correctly) and I carry more regularly I may again see the utility in a smaller gun, but I doubt I'll ever go smaller than the traditional subcompacts again (G26/27, S&W M&Pc, SIG P239, etc), and most likely I'll stay with double stacks for capacity.

Oh, I also sometimes carry a .45LC S&W 625MG when in the mood, in either a carved Black Hills BH24 slide, or a Galco Summer Comfort IWB.

For a brief time there was a member here who carried a Desert Eagle. He was kind of combative and his stay here was short-lived, he claimed to carry a DE .50 AE daily.

Just one? Yeah, that guy was a pansy. Everyone knows you don't reach elite Mall Ninja Operator status until you daily concealed carry a pair of Desert Eagles... In Thunderwear.

Okay you win! That's got to be the heaviest heavy hitter carry guns you could possibly carry.

Just to put my mind at ease please tell me you don't do this on a daily basis.

Oh, for sure. Actually, it's easier than you might think. I don't worry about it if I print through my clothes a little. After all, if someone asks if that's a cannon in my pants, I just wink and say "thanks!"

:D

Shot a little steel this afternoon; had my P224 with the 40 barrel in place, and my G34 (long version of a 17) and my G35 and it reminded me of this thread...

Really hard for me to think the 34 is a "heavy hitter" and the 224 isn't. :scrutiny:

I have had a couple of Charter Arms Bulldogs over the years and Sunday a friend excitedly showed me one he had just acquired saying "I got one just like you use to have." :D

They are good budget big bore guns but, alas, too small to qualify as a full size Heavy Hitter on this thread. :(

It isn't full-sized, but IMHO 44 special is a heavy hitter. And I do carry it.

I can't quite make out the name but is that a Charter Arms Revolver in a Southpaw format?

I have a Taurus Model 415 snub-nosed revolver, chambered in .41 Magnum that should qualify as a compact, heavy-weight. But my go-to carry pistol is a SIG Model 227, chambered in .45 ACP.

I am a bit compulsive about my handgun pictures all facing the same way, so I rotated the Bulldog picture. It's just a normal right-handed Bulldog with a shrouded hammer. I will carry a 38 or whatever, but 44's give me more of a warm fuzzy feeling. :)
