Heller: win big, lose bigger?

We're looking at a minimum 4-8 years for Incorporation?
Yup.

1+ years to bring the Chicago case, as it will take time to adapt the pending case to the exact nuances of Heller.
1-2 years to actually prosecute the case in lowest federal court.
1-2 years to appeal to circuit court.
1-2 years to get next appeal accepted by SCOTUS.
1 year to get a SCOTUS verdict.
That's 8 years easy, 5 if things go fast & smooth.
Ack.

And that assumes that Chicago (or whoever the initial defendant is) plays according to plan as DC did (despite rock-solid circuit court ruling, opted to appeal to SCOTUS instead of subvert ruling by changing laws in question to something different & more obfuscated). Methinks DC doesn't know how to play dirty like Chicago does.

What we need is caselaw determining that ammunition is an integral part of the "arm". As in, possession of a firearm is meaningless without the ammunition that allows it to work.

How we go about obtaining that is beyond me.
A mortar shell or rocket could be considered to be a big cartridge. Most accept that a mortar shell or rocket IS an arm/explosive. I submit that cartridges ARE arms.

That aside: first, you have to have an individual right to keep and bear arms before you have a right to the bullets that go in them. If you have an individual right to keep and bear firearms then an ammo infringement would be a defacto infringement on the 2nd.

Wait for Heller.

Cali is the key

If you want to see what they can do to prohibit guns and ammo I think California should be on everyone's watch list. They are passing "State" laws perpetually making it harder for residents there to buy guns and ammo. They just passed new legislation requiring out of state sellers to file all kinds of paperwork to get a gun shipped into the state. They are constantly banning individual weapons like the Big 50's and assault weapons. They are making ammo restrictions and doing everything in their power to make it harder for law abiding citizens to own guns legally. Their "approved" list shinks daily while VERY FEW new guns make it on the list.

If Heller doesn't help Cali residents regain some of their rights to gun ownership then I think we can see where this will all end up....An individual right to own one gun that the state has determined that you should own....maybe a black powder 22 single shot derringer?????
