Please help. I live in Los Angeles County, the city of Glendale. I would like to apply for a CCW, however, both the city police dept and the county sheriff dept have a strong record of not granting them, ever. (i am not a politcal figure, movie star, sports athlete or friend of the mayor, just a normal person). I have a clean record with no arrests, tickets, etc. and i own several hand guns and rifles. I don't want to apply for a CCW and then have it denied. It might make it harder to get one later on if i move out of my current area.

As unreasonable as it sounds, the more someone says I can't have one, the more i want to get one, especially since it is my "right". If a similar person in a similar situation in the next county over can get one easily, i should also be allowed to get one here.

Are there any attorneys who specialize in helping applicants obtain a ccw or are there any other steps to take that would make it easier to have my application accepted. What can i do?

Move 40 miles east to San Bernardino Co. Maybe Montclair. You'd be just over the border and San Bernardino Co. is about as close to "shall issue" as California gets. You need to see if the commute is feasible as well as housing, etc. But in the end it's a solution that is real. There are no legal actions that can be taken in LA, and you have a snowball's chance in Iraq of getting one. You'll find that San Bernardino Co. residents tend to be more conservative than those of LA County.

Having been a former Los Angeles County resident, and a current CCW holder in another state. I would say you have absolutly no chance of getting a CCW approved in Southern California.

more thoughts on the matter.

If I do apply in LA County and ultimately get turned down as i think i will be, will I have a harder time in the future trying to get a CCW and having to explain why I was denied on now?

San Bernardino County has 2600 permits issued among 1.7 million residents.
LA County has 1600 permits for 9.8 million residents.
See what I mean by "almost shall issue"
San Diego Orange and Imperial Co. aren't too shabby either.
Avoid Riverside County and Ventura.
Kern, though further north, is a great county to get a permit in too.

There are those who think that CCW permits are a scam. The idea that you are applying for a license for what is supposed to be a right, means that you are admitting that the right is not absolute and that they are now telling you where you can and can't carry.

Having said that, I think that the positive tide of CCW in the nation with my Utah permit now honored in 37 states, is certainly a positive step in making people understand that guns are good, not bad.

Me, I am only in California on orders. I will not stay one day longer than I need to. My only regret is that I did not bring my pistol with me to carry as soon as I hit the NV border.

I believe that past denials are a question on the permit.

May I add in support of the Californians... the more of you that move to pro-2A counties, the more OF you will be in pro-2A counties and therefore the more the local politicians will have to respond to your desires for CCW. Move out of LA, move to a neighboring county, get your CCW, good in all of CA. Hooray!

bear in mind that Orange may swing either way in the near future, as the sherriff has been indicted on several charges.

Help me please! I live in California.

Your only hope is to get the heck out of there. There are still a few places in this country where sanity is not a vice.

Let see,, Find the freeway ramp and "Take I-70 East"....

Just kidding...

Yup is the short answer here... many other states ask if you have ever been denied a CCW before... Good luck if you try!! I hope it works.. I dream of a day when all Americans can exercise their God-Given Rights without fear of prison and/or fines!

First time carrying in California without a permit is a misdemeanor. Not that I advocate that. That would be worse than being denied if you ever do move and they do a back ground check.

Let me just say to those of you who are advocating leaving California. There is no need to retreat. As conservative people leave the state it becomes easier for politicians to take away our rights.

Apply and get denied. Then do a Freedom of Information request to see who that sheriff has issued permits to. If they’re all influential people, movie stars, and friends, hire a lawyer and sue. I don’t know what else you can do there.

I thought about being sarcastic and saying move but then thought how I would feel if I was in your place. I feel for man and wish you luck. Sure glad I don't have that problem.

If you will be staying in California, then the advice given earlier to move to a more CCW friendly county would be your best bet, if commuting is tolerable for you.
Yes, there is a question on the application that asks if you have ever been previously denied. So you will have to answer that truthfully.

CalCCW and CaliforniaCCW are your two best resources for information and advice. Especially CalCCW, they have an excellent batting average with helpful members from various counties, not just Orange County. Either way you decide to go, I wish you luck and success. :D

If we don't keep the terrorist away from the land and area you are in, everyone will be armed IMHO.

The situation occuring in LA area is the crime rate is dropping, so with that in mind, you don't need a CCW;)
