Help! Weatherby Mark XXII Auto

I own a Weatherby Mark XXII 22 Auto and until 5 minutes ago thought it only came in the Auto. Then I was looking for additional info and found that there is also a Weatherby Mark XXII in bolt action?

Can someone please explain the difference in value/performance etc?

What is a realistic expectation where 50 yard groups are concerned with the Mark XXII Auto?

The semi-auto is old production, discontinued in the late 80's, IIRC. The bolt gun was just introduced as a new production item.

hi, the bolt action wby 22 is basicly an anschutz rifle with a weatherby stock.it came out about 2 years ago.i;m not sure which anschutz version of their action it is,maybe a 64.the bolt knob is plastic,which does not look too good.i have 2 weatherby xxII auto's, they are very accurate rifles,ive had them for 25 years. should shoot under 3/4" groups at 50 years, ive shot 1/4" ones at 25yds with mine with cci std ammo.you might be able to tighten that group with lapua or eley.those wby actions are very smooth & the guns are extermely well made! about 12 or 15 years ago, weatherby made an attempt at a bolt 22,it looked like a scaled down mk v with fluted bolt,same mk v stock,it was completely their own design, but the gun never materialized.the anschutz wby 22 is going for around 750 or so.it may be a bit more accurate than the auto.one more thing, the wby 22 auto's in mint condition are climbing in value,ive seen them as high as 800.00.the auto's first came out in the 70's,was discontinued & re introduced in the early to mid 80,s,then discontinued in late 80's.made by beretta in the early years, then howa in japan.hope this info helps you......

i have to agree with goldie.

the auto was a Weatherby design and came as either a box or tube fed model...mine is a tube fed from Howa. i thought it was outragous when i paid $279 for it when i could get a Ruger 10/22 for less than $50...even with the Weatherby scope (does anyone know who made this?)

the new Weatherby Mk XXII is an Anchutz M-64 action in a Weatherby style stock. i've never understood why they went with the "club" action rather than the Olympic level M-54

Thanks for the info...you might like to know that at the Cabela's in Ft Worth the Auto's are selling for between $699 an $799 on their used rack. They came into about 10 of them all at once and cheapest any of them were priced was $699.

I just want to see what type of groups I can expect to get from mine.

i might have to check into this. i still need a boxfed model to go with my tubefed.

in my old age, i've come to feed my long suppressed desires. i just picked up an Anschtuz M-54 for more than twice what they're asking for that Weatherby

my 1st wby 22 was 350 out the door in 1985,the other was used,a year or two later,paid 450.the earlier ones had jeweled bolts,the later ones had grooves in them.the earliest ones from beretta didnt have the rosewood grip cap,it came later when howa took over.machining of those bolts are incredible.silky smooth,it runs so perfectly in the surrounding action,if you take one apart, you'll see how nice it is....

The new Weatherby Mark XXXII bolt action 22s are real nice. Take a look at one sometime. If you like Weatherby's, you'll probably like what you see. I got one earlier this year. It was the first one I saw in a store.

Why do they stick a plastic bolt knob on the Weatherby bolt-action .22's?? Seems like a cheap move to me.

that plastic knob really detracts from the rifle,its black & is mated to the rest of the bolt which is nickel or silver finished. it sticks out like a sore thumb. i think thats why ive seen a lot of them for sale with pictures of the guns without the bolts in them.....

just curious, but what is the box fed version worth new? My dad has one in his office and it has never been fired.
