So I have the chance to procure a Hi-Power for around $425. I am trying to do some research on it.

Serial # is 76Cxxxxx (the serial # appears only on the frame in front of the grips).

It is currently nickel-plated, which the dealer believes to be a refinish. Slide is marked Browning, Made in Belgium on the left side. Frame is marked with a 2 in front of the trigger guard on the left and what looks like a crown over an oval on the right side. Barrel has same crown over an oval and some other marks I can't distinguish.

There is some light pitting around the gun under the nickel, and the mag safety has been removed.

The barrel is, well, something I can't say on this family friendly forum. The shop said they would soak it overnight to see if it was pitting/corrosion or just caked on grime.

External extractor.

Sights are adjustable, but really friggin' huge.

Any information would be a great help, especially in regard to pricing.

Does it have a Gold Trigger? Is it shiny nickel or a brushed chrome look? Depending on the condition of the finish offer $375 to $400.

Does the finish look like this?

Trigger is nickel as well, grips are wood. Finish does look like that, and so does the front sight, but the rear sight is bigger and clunkier and nickel as well. Safety is left side only, small. Spur hammer.

It is a refinish of an older 1976 Hi Power. Depending on its actual condition and the condition of the rear sight cut I would offer $250 to $300 The rear sight alone makes it very suspect IMHO. It would be the first thing to go. Dovetail the front and rear install a proper sight and then refinish. So you are looking at at least $200 to get it right IMHO.

Rella, it is on consignment, so I'll see what they are willing to work with. If the barrel is highly corroded, to me, it's starting to be more to fix than it's worth. Bar-Sto barrels ain't cheap, and a refinish is going to start at $200, plus sights and the milling for the dovetail. I could buy an Israeli with a better barrel and the front sight already dovetailed for right at about $500.....

Pass run away don't walk. There are great BHP out there in near mint condition if you are patient and have cash in hand....

Went in today to look at the barrel after the soak. Definitely not buying the gun. Someone shot a lot of corrosive ammo and didn't bother cleaning it, and I don't feel like tacking a Bar-Sto barrel on top of the price of the gun....

That is pretty much what mine is, but it has been refinished parkerized. Also had to pay with CC to get it here faster, and that cost me the extra 3%... once it gets here, I'll look it over, and I may get another one...

Went to a gun show hoping to find one, not a single genuine Hi-Power there...
