Was just wondering if anyone has one and what you think of it. I saw some pics and read about them on the Henry website - look sort of interesting.

Funny, seems as I get older I like guns that hold fewer rounds rather than more!

I have both the .357 and a .44 magnum in steel. The fit and finish are very nice, and the wood is outstanding for the price point. They are a bit heavy for a single shot, but not uncomfortably so. I haven’t measured the trigger pull, but it’s not bad. There is a bit of noticeable creep, though.

I haven’t shot the .44 yet. The .357 shot 1.5” at 50 yards with my hand loads, and I can probably improve on that. I have both set up with low power Leupold variables: a Vari-X III 1-4x20 and a VX3 1.5-5x20. The DNZ Game Reaper for the Handi-Rifle also fits the Henry.

I have a Henry 45-70 steel receiver single shot rifle and I love it. It’s a fine looking rifle and it is put together very nicely. It does have a kick as the rifle is less than 7 pounds but the recoil pad really works well.

Been wanting to see one in person ever since they were first announced...... Still waiting. Pretty sure I want one but nobody around here has had any yet. I have a Henry AR-7 and the base model .22 lever gun that are nice. . Single shots have always had a special mystique to me and like the OP; the older I get the more attracted I am to them. The Henry single shot is looking better all the time.

I can remember seeing a Ruger #3 many years ago, wishing I had bought one. Also that Ruger would make another...but this Henry looks nice, and if I ever handle one, and it's in an interesting caliber, it may have to go home with me.
I see them on KYGunco and Buds occasionally, and get tempted to just buy one.

I've never seen one in the flesh either. They look nice on the computer but would like to hold one in my hands to see if I like it.

Do you know if ruger #1 /(converted) siamese mauser loads are suitable for henry single shot? If so im getting one for sure.

I had one for a very short time back in the 80s. Stupid younger me wanted more firepower and modern bottleneck cartridges than the 'creaky' old 45-70.

I hope they never build a time machine, because then I'd have a hard time not kicking my younger self's *** for all the great guns that passed through my hands.

Obturation, I honestly do not know but if you call Henry they will be able to tell you.
Telephone: 201-858-4400
I did ask them if there were any loads to avoid when I bought mine and they said it would shoot anything from black powder loads to any and all factory 45-70 loads. I didn’t ask about any specialty loads. If you call you will get a person to speak with in short order. Great company to deal with.

Great, thanks for the info. I bought a h010 45 -70 from henry 2 years ago and have had no need for customer service to this point. Henry is turning out great firearms. Seems to be the exception these days, i really feel like my henry has a bit of soul . Not the norm for items brand new out of the box in 2018.

Update - Was in the gun dept. at the local Runnings, home, farm, and outdoor store where I purchased my Henry 22 lever gun in October and the manager said he could get me a Henry single shot in .308 in 2 to 3 weeks with a down payment..... So I took him up on it. First time in my life buying a gun sight unseen. Finally got sick of waiting for one to show up at ANY LGS around here. This is gonna be interesting and I'm really looking forward to it so far.

I have a 357 on my GB watch list now. I have sent Henry two emails asking that they make these in 357 and now they have done it. I have had a deep want for a Rook & Rabbit rifle for many years. And this is about as close to an American made R&R rifle as I am likely to get. Unless I can convince to to make one in 32 mag. Or better yet a 32 long.

I hadn't seen a 357 mag version , sweet. I use an ancient h&r 12 gauge that beat up pretty bad with a short lane adapter in 38 special as a rook rifle. Works pretty good, a lot of times i load a hot glue cast swc with just a primer for up close pests. Got any favorite rook loads in 38- i would be interested to hear.

I have a Lee 124gr 9mm mold I like to use with 3grs of Bullseye. Also the same load in a 357 case with a .360 round ball. In my Marlin lever the round ball will shoot 3 shot 1.5" groups at 45 yards. That surprised me. I didn't expect much for that load but it works fine as a small game load. The 9mm bullet is even better in a 38 case. And is s great practice round for a snubby revolver. I use it unsized since it cast around .357.

Collin Greenwood who wrote a couple of different RR articles liked 4-4.5grs of Unique in his duplicate loads depending on caliber. But most of his loads were with .31 caliber guns. They seemed to have been the most common.

I've also found that the same powder charge often works well with the same weight bullet in both 9mm and 38 special. Nice to be able to load 2 calibers with the same powder measure setting.

How is the noise level on the round ball load? Ive got a round ball mold that drops .453 , maybe some 45 colt loads are in order. Ive loaded round ball loads before from dead soft lead and tumble lubed them and pressed them flush with thr case mouth (cant remember the charge but i believe i used unique). They leaded pretty bad and i had poor accuracy, kind of cut my experiment short there and use the mold for buckshot sometimes. But only dropping 2 at a time its kind of counter productive. Ive been in search of an accurate yet quiet centerfire loading for a while now but have come up with loads that are accurate but not very quiet and loads that are fairly quiet but dirty and something like 5 inch groups at 7 yards inaccurate. Hence my glue bullet endeavor which is very quiet, clean, cheap but pretty weak and not as accurate as i would like - its my go to garden gun load and it does work ok at short range for that.

I had no leading problems with the RB load. And its about like a standard 22 load from a rifle barrel for noise. If shooting the 9mm load from a rifle make sure its making it out of the barrel with plenty of force. Or maybe better raise the load to 3.5grs of Bullseye.

I loaded the RB load in a 357 case with the bullet slightly showing and added a little Lee alox around the edge of the bullet and no leading. Plus they would cycle from the magazine. A 38 case wouldn't.

I had a Marlin 32 mag I just sold and had some 1.2gr Bullseye loads with a 76gr lead bullet and they were as quiet as a CB22 round but still went 960fps on the Chronograph. What a great poacher deer round they would have been if I were inclined that way.
