Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on the difference in quality between a Ruger single six .22/22mag and the model that the Heritage company puts out.

I have a Single Six but have looked at a few of the Heritage revolvers. I've never shot one but they didn't look all that bad to me regardless of what a few here say, especially considering the price. Many people that post here are happy with them and I understand they have a good warranty. I don't knock less expensive guns that work. I've got a couple of those other brands myself.

My wife has a Heritage, and it has been a great little pistol. However, the Ruger is a better pistol in my opinion. Comparing the two is like comparing a Kia Rio to a Honda Civic. They are both OK little cars (pistols), but the Honda (Ruger) is going to have greater resale value, be a bit more refined in handling and long term reliability.

I've got 500 rds. (give or take) through my Heritage replica. No problems. It's a well-made firearm. My only complaint is that its poi is a good bit left of the poa. I have not yet tinkered with fixing it.

I used to have a Rough Rider that I now regret selling. It was a fine little wheelie that produced fine accuracy (POA = POI with cheap Wallie World crap). The finishing wasn't as nice as a Ruger, but what do you expect for $150 NIB with tax and an extra 22 Mag cylinder? It even came with a Nylon holster.

The only glitch I had was that the screw holding the ejector rod housing in place needed to be tightened every 500 rounds or so. But it is a good idea to remove the housing at 500 round intervals anyway, as it does get pretty gunked up.

The warranty on the Heritage I bought was only 1-year. The Rugers are lifetime I believe. For the money, it is hard to beat the Heritage, though the Ruger is the nicer gun. Either of them can be a lot of fun.

Apples and Oranges, the Heritage isn't anywhere near the same league as the Ruger. The Ruger is the standard by which the copies are judged.

Edit: spelling

I really like the Kia-Honda analogy. I own 2 Heritage (a .17 and a .22/.22mag) revolvers and a Single-six. The Ruger is a better quality arm, but the Heritage guns put holes in the paper identical to the Rugers! There a certain amount of snobbery in owning a Ruger, but the holes are identical. Rugers may last longer (anybody got statistics?), but the holes are identical! Anybody see a pattern here?:D

Vern is right. Get the Ruger.

I had a Rough Rider and had so many problems with it that I finally returned it to the dealer for a refund and bought a Single Six. Having handled and shot both guns, there is no comparison between the two. You'll wear out or break 3 Rough Riders before you even have to think about a new barrel for your SS. Your grandkids and their kids will shoot the Ruger, whereas they may look at the Rough Rider and comment that they can't believe that grandpap actually shot that thing.

Learn from my mistake. Get the Ruger.

I have a fixed sight ruger single six that has no bluing left, I bought it used over 20 years ago. cylinder still tight, accuracy is excellent. no repairs needed since Ive had it. SEVERAL thousand of rounds through it and its still tight ,and most likely will be in 10 years or so when my grandson is old enough for it. Anyone out there with a heritage that can say the same? ( no sarcasm, I would really like to know.)
About 15 years or so ago, i had a single action .22 revolver that had birds head grips, fixed sights and ( I think) a 3" barrel. I really liked it, but sold it during a divorce. I think it may have been a heritage, but I'm not sure. Anybody out there know if this is the same gun?

Heritage Rough Rider

Heritage: I'll be buying a Heritage Manufacturing (www.HeritageMfg.com) Rough Rider myself, soon. The ones I've seen looked nice. Priced very reasonably, altho it does come with a transfer bar safety, if that bothers you. I like the interchangeable 22LR/22Mag cylinders, and the finish looks good.
Want a 6" in stainless (adjustable sights) myself.

I have a Heritage - its been a great gun. Its definitely worth the $125 I paid for it, probably more in my opinion.

Makes a great plinker.

Its not on the same field as a Ruger though.....but then again the price aint the same either.

Rugers better, I have no doubt.....is it worth the extra money, thats up to you.

I've got a fairly new .22 Rough Rider. Finish quality is definitely sub par to the Single Six. The frame has surface imperfections that look like crude file marks and the bluing isn't consistent. Mine came with a thin coat of grease covering the frame that made it look horrible in the box and wasn't easy to remove, but eventually shined up nicely.

Other than these faults, it functions and shoots great. It's very accurate and has a super nice crisp trigger. I don't think a Single Six could shoot any better.

For 150 bucks the Rough Rider really performs and should last for years if you treat it well.

I've had a Heritage Rough Rider for a few months and it is suprisingly accurate. Not a single mechanical hiccup so far. I bought it because it was so low priced... otherwise I wouldn't have considered a Single Action revolver. It was the only revolver I could afford... and I have no regrets. In fact, I'd even consider buying a longer one with adjustable sights and a red dot and another with the shortest barrel. If I could though, I'd certainly trade it for a Ruger... the Alloy frame and aesthetic are not ideal.

rough rider. i love mine, and ive shot both guns. i would take the Heritage any day. its light, quick, INEXPENCIVE, accurate, and has a natural feel to it. Granted, the Ruger has the whole brand name aspect to it, but as it was said before, they both punch holes the same size...
