Hi-Power Love

Very impressive BHPs and photographs in this thread. Congrats gents!

I really regret selling my BHP. I purchased it NIB, never fired it and sold it for well under today's going rate. I'd buy a replacement in a heartbeat if they weren't so expensive.

nwilliams, I'd like to hear more about this supurb looking Jim Hoag masterpeice!

I picked it up about six or seven years ago from a gun shop in Arizona for $400. I wasn't aware at the time I bought it that it was a Jim Hoag custom job, I just knew that whoever did the work really knew what they were doing. After posting a number of detailed pictures on the Browning Browning Hi-Power Owner's Forum it was quickly determined by knowledgeable folks over there who did the work on it and after looking at other examples of Hoag BHP's it became obvious to me as well. To date this ranks as the luckiest firearm find and I'll never part with it. Oh and FYI it shoots as good as it looks!

The front and back of the grip are finely checkered, it has S&W sights, removable barrel bushing, the mag disconnect has been removed and the trigger weighs in a just a fraction over 3lbs. Obviously the finish isn't factory, it has been very nicely re-blued.

Amazing find, nwilliams. Reminds me of a thread I read on another forum where someone found a pristine SIG P210 for around $700. I wish I had that kind of luck.

I agree, that is a most amazing find! I just wonder who would have sold such a finely-crafted Hi Power for so little money that the shop could make out selling it for $400! Talk about a guy who should have seller's remorse....

Nice weapons. I am lucky enough to have 2 T series guns, they are great! I need a Practical. I have had opportunities to get a couple other models but compare them all to my T series and have let them go by. Great pics. What rigs do you guys carry your weapons in?

I just got around to replacing the trigger/mainspring on my Practical. The mag disconnect was already out. Trigger dropped from 7.5lb to 5.5lb. without any other trigger mods which is right about where I like them.

Wow. This thread brings back memories. I was issued a Hi Power 20+ years ago before the finnish military switched over to Glocks. I never thought much of it, except for being one of greatest Browning designs of course, but later came to realization that what I carried was truly a piece of history.

I haven't got around to buying one myself, good ones aren't cheap and my list of handguns to buy has always been a long one. The polished blued one on page one of this thread is absolutely gorgeous, makes me want one, badly.

Can someone recommend a good gunsmith where I can send my Mk III for a mild custom job, like a trigger job and removing the mag disconnect. That's one "feature" I hate. Since my other autos have no magazine disconnect, I want my HP the same way. The trigger pull is a might stiff.

If you feel up to it, you can do it yourself. Took me about 10 minutes to install a new C&S wide trigger, took me about the same to remove the mag safety from my old trigger when I first got the gun. Obviously, C&S will do the work for you as well....http://www.cylinder-slide.com/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=catshow&ref=BHP9

The Silver Chrome Hi Powers are really nicely done as well. I don't think they off the chrome anymore, but I could be wrong.

Most people have good results with the 15 rounders. Some report issue with the followers. I have always had good feeding with them.

Good luck tell us how it goes.
I took my 2 new MecGar 15 rounders out and only had one FTF on last round. I shot about 200 rounds. I was using Remington 9mm. Going to the ranch in Kville in a few weeks. Will put 500 rounds of WWB, Remington and reloads and see if it happens again. I am happy with the 15 rounders though! Good to go.

I think I have held off long enough I need a Hi-Power now. You fellas have some very very nice pistolas:what:

Thank you! C&S looks good. I used to be fairly good with small parts but since I lost feeling in my hand and have arthritis I'd rather leave it to a pro.

My meager contribution. It was made in whenever, yet I bought it last year in this original condition.

I took out the mag safety and replaced the hammer and sear with a no-bite set from Cylinder and Slide.

Nice looking HI Power. To my eyes it looks like a MKIII. You can tell by the ambi safety, the sights and sight cuts. The other dead give away is the Portugal rollmark. The mid 60's HI Powers also have a internal extractors like this...

I believe it was made in 09. The serial number looks to have MN in it. Which would mean 09.

elow is the key to FN dates of manufacture via the serial numbers.

Per "Browning Dates of Manufacture", 1988, Brownsboro
TX, Art and Reference House:

Z = 1
Y = 2
X = 3
W= 4
V = 5
T = 6
R = 7
P = 8
N= 9
M= 0

Great gun no matter when it was made. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the date. I'm actually looking to sell it probably sometime soon since it basically sits in the safe more than anything else. Bluing that shiny is like a rust magnet in my experience but I couldn't pass on the deal I got it for. Every time I touch it, I'm wiping it down with an oil rag before it goes back in the safe to make sure it stays in it's mint condition.

I sure do wish I was a hi-tech-photo-poster-type 'cause the only FN parts left on my .40 S&W P35 are (I think) the slide & the frame. Cylinder & Slide; matched (forged) hammer & sear, reduced effort transfer bar, wide target trigger, 1911-style ambi thumb safety. Pachmayr; extended slide release. Navidrix thin line black micarta checkered grip panels. All hard-chromed or stainless controls over deep (DEEP), shiny blue finish. And, best of all, a KKM .357 SIG barrel. (KKM=Kevin McIntyre is a fine gent). Only two things left to do, new sights (AO Big Dots?) and a IWB holster. I now own the custom I've ALWAYS wanted. Shoots like a laser with the fastest slide speed of any pistol I've got.
