Hi-Power Love

Now Johnny, I've only posted this picture just a little over 1000 times...Not hardly at all.:neener:

I love Austin Behlert work all except for the sights. I have never been a fan of adjustable ones and I am not a fan of the rib on the top ala Gold Cup 1911s but have always loved the look of the front grip mod. I have almost bought a few of his BHPs but never could pull the trigger. LOL

That said I love the classic BHPs. I love the classic elegant lines of the old stock guns. Here is better pics of one of my favorites.

Ok...I got it...Mec-Gar makes the OEM mag, they are cheaper some places, the Mec-Gar mags are also found in abundance with good deals. I should have quantified my initial post with what I have seen locally(overpriced local stores) and at gun shows and the disparaging price difference with the OEM "Browning' Mec-Gar and the Mec-Gar. I was trying to convey that Browning mags are F'in expensive.

Now enough with price and back to hi power lovin'
:) - Which would be my porn name if I was in the movies.

btw,

thanks all who responded with good links..

Yes. There's no reason to pay $55 for mags with "Browning" stamped on them, when you can buy the same mags for a little over $20 with "Mec-Gar" stamped on them.

I've been using the Mec-Gar 15 round mags for over a year now. They work with 100% reliability in my HP's, so you might want to check those out. The link in #33 is the cheapest source for Mec-Gar mags that I know of.

Next to the 1911 the BHP is my favorite handgun of all time.

Here are some pics of my BHP customized by Jim Hoag.

Pictured here with my Richard Heinie Colt 1911 just because they look so purty together!:D

Well, there are differences... the mousetrap springs, the four-leg follower, the phosphate finish... but are those features worth twice as much? I suppose that's a matter of opinion.

Nwilliams, is that a removable barrel bushing?

So this is my first post to this forum.... looks like the perfect place to do it, so I thought I'd take the plunge after seeing all the nice things. Haven't done much with the on-line forums to this point. No excuses to take it easy on me, but from the looks of the likes of you Gents, I think I will fit in nicely around here :)

rellascout, it appears that I have similar tastes to yours. Very nice indeed.

All are nice for that matter.

To show that I love the Hi-Power, and that I'm not new to the rodeo, I'll throw a few gratuitous photos in the ring. Mine is an all-original 1969 Belgian-fabricated unit, still retaining the magazine disconnect. Sharp as a tack, bore is shiny as a mirror, and it operates the way a duty arm should.

Nice furniture on classic blued lines warms my heart - just like my Hi Standard model 104. Just so that I can't be accused of being a classic-only type, I threw a picture of my late-model Kimber Custom Shop 1911.

Cheers all,

FlyingB

You don't need the mousetraps once you remove the mag disconnect. I've seen the 13 round Mec-Gars with both 2 and 4 legged followers. Both are reliable. The 15 round mags remove the legs completely, so they are like every other brand of mag out there. I find those to be 100% reliable as well.

I bought a couple of 15 rd Mec-Gars. Will try them out this week.

Most people have good results with the 15 rounders. Some report issue with the followers. I have always had good feeding with them.

Good luck tell us how it goes.

No, Don Williams did that part. I stripped it, parked it, removed the mag disconnect, added a custom sear/hammer and the usual lightened hammer spring and heavier recoil spring. I also added a lanyard post and ring (missing on mine) and cut the grips to make it fit. Oh, and I also cut the right side off a new ambi-safety and mounted that because I didn't like the tiny old style safety. Most of that work wasn't necessary, but it was something to do over a long winter.

Cool I figured you had someone mill your slide. How much did he charge you for that work?

Wow, two Jim Hoag modified Hi Powers in the same thread with one by Austin Behlert! What a collection of guns from two of the masters. The one nwilliams posted is just about the best looking H-P I've ever seen. I do love the look of K-frame revolver sights on the BHP, and the checkering job looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing, guys!

It was about a hundred bucks. Don has a very good reputation with Hi Powers and he's a bit quicker than most gunsmiths.
