So all my colts shoot high as I have read was historic IE sighted at 75 yards Im considering some dremmel work on the hammer to bring it down and would like some opinions or alternatives?

Mike Beliveau has a video on it:

I just compensate by aiming low on the target using a 6 o'clock hold on the 5 ring:

Yep that's pretty much how I have done it as well but it has always annoyed me aiming below a target to hit it.And I think it breeds bad habits when shooting lots of different types.
Mikes video is exactly how i was planning to do it.

I used Harbor Freight Diamond needle files item #69876 @ $6.99. They cut through the case hardening and you can use the square or triangle file depending on how wide you want the "V".

Thanks yes I have used these before for a bit of correction on sight but I have several I want to do so I think dremmel will be my friend.

Hand file only, small changes only, then shoot a group or two. A little will go a very long way. I know this can be a bit tedious but it's the only way to get it right the first time. Besides, it's very difficult to "un-file" something. Be sure that when filing you keep the top of the hammer/sight parallel with the hammer at full cock, this can be more difficult than it sounds.

dd, you know as well as I that if you are to maintain a proper sight picture, making the rear "sight" notch deeper won't make any difference. You must either lower the rear sight or raise the front in order to lower the point of impact.

Take note of what dd has done to the rear sight notch, this is exactly what I do prior to lowering the rear "sight". I too, prefer a U or square notch over the factory mini v notch.

dd, what you doing over here, why not on the other place which shall remain nameless? Good to see ya.

I just remembered one other thing I do while altering the rear sight notch. I will make windage corrections as I enlarge and lower the rear sight notch. Keep in mind, these changes are made gradually and shooting test groups after each change.

I posted this "there" a long time ago.
I also did this with the hammer in the gun and cocked (unloaded......snicker), effectually "lowering" my rear sight!
I suppose I could do another picture of it from a different angle someday!:D
P.S. I used a dremel.

I would expect nothing less from a genetic throwback inbred hillbilly. Oops, forgot which forum we're on.

dremel tools + firearms = makes my head hurt. However, on the bright side, they're not my weapons.
