Hilarious ammo price of the week

Around 1963 I would go to the Western Auto store and buy .22 shorts for $0.39, and nobody questioned why an 11 year old was buying ammo. Oh those were the days my friends!!
Even in the late 70's the ladies at the cornerr market would sell us all the 22's, shotgun shells and Copenhagen a kid could buy. When we hit 15 beer was ok too.

I never buy ammo in a panic.

When the 1968 Gun Control Act required ammo to be logged with drivers licence number etc. and the anti-gunners were talking about punitive sin taxes on ammo, I began a personal policy of keeping at least a five year supply of ammo, but bought only in calm times at reasonable prices.

"6.5 Carcano at $4 per round everywhere on GunBroker...."
Oooooo I'm sitting on a gold mine, I could gloat like Gollum over my precious hoard.

Not too "hilarious" but painful -- I "bit the bullet" so to speak, and found a guy on GB selling SPP. The buy-it-now price was just shy of a grand for 5000. He had over 450 positive feedbacks, so I "bit" and sent off a USPS money order since there was no credit card option. Last week I received a box with three pieces of scrap wood and note from this guy telling me what an fool I was! Raised all kinds of noise on GB and all the good it did was get me booted.

On Gun Broker? Who was the seller?

Sounds like it's time to call the cops.

I won't ever buy except with a credit or debit card and then I can sick the bank on them if they try something. I have had to do that several times. You should post the sellers info on all of the forums that have a place for that. make sure the posts are tagged so they are easy to find. Here you can post about it:

Return address on the package. Seems like that person needs a visit from Buba

Twenty cents per primer. I would be tempted to sell my entire stock and give up the shooting sports for the next 8 years. That's like a 600% mark up.

I do not use ebay or GB anymore

Me neither. I've been burned enough on small, stupid stuff for small, stupid amounts. I've learned my lesson(s).

I was at Cabela's yesterday and saw 6 boxes of 223 on the shelf. Hornady V max 50 grain. $23 each.

Be careful with a debit card, they do not always have the same protections as a credit card. Some banks consider debit card transactions the same as cash. Always use a proper credit card if you can.

7.62X54R is expensive now? .

Not as bad as some other calibers right now but has gone up some hovering at 50 cents a shot steel cased, of course a run of the mill Mosin rifle is pushing $500 now though. For Swiss K31 want to be shooters, expect to take out a second mortgage or get a 2nd or 3rd job for either a rifle or ammo right now.

Sheesh--I guess I dodged a bullet on that one, too. I still have four of the black cases of GP11. You know what they say: "Buy it cheap and stack it deep."

Am curious as to whether bidets (sp?) became insanely marked up recently. Never shopped for one.

One of my good friends is a plumber. When toilet paper disappeared he went from installing one a month to 3 a day...

Edit: read the rest of the thread. Holy cats, I didnt know primers shot up like that. Iirc I have 1k spp and 9mm bullets in my stash and I dont reload yet. Maybe I need to trade it for mini mags or actually man up and start pressing ammo...
