My hunting buddies in rural western Pennsylvania came up with a low cost deer blind. They bought a junk car for cheap and had it towed to the edge of a clearing within a wooded area. Then they stuffed old clothes with newspapers to form two human shaped dummies which are placed in the front seat. Deer soon get used to the sight and pay it no mind. Opening day, they toss the dummies in the back seat and begin their hunt. Many deer have been taken from this junk car. The local Warden found out about this blind and charged them with hunting from a motor vehicle. But the Magistrate tossed out the case because the junk car has no motor. Justice!

Depending on the state even if it runs, you're not in violation since it's often "hunting from a motor vehicle on the public roadway, or property used by the public in general" (so not in public parking lots adjacent to areas open to the public for hunting either). Otherwise they'd have to site guys hunting from powered wheel chairs. I don't suppose that deer know the difference between a junk car without wheels or with..., so you could drop a car body from a flatbed and use that. I've seen guys put up scarecrows and then "assume the position" when it comes time to hunt.

I've also seen a fellow who found out the geese where he was trying to hunt (and having no luck with decoys), were flying from a nearby lake in an area where there was no hunting allowed because it was a public park. That park hosted lots of people in the warmer months who would feed geese. So...., this fellow set up his decoys in the middle of a field, in a tight group, all facing toward him. While standing in front of the geese, he would call geese flying in the distance with a call in his left hand, while swinging his right hand back and forth as though he was tossing corn to the decoys. ;) He figured the geese might see him pretending to feed the geese (his decoys) and vector in for a landing for a free meal. Worked like a charm. They'd come in drop low, and he'd unsling his 870 and start harvesting geese. A local warden came over to check him out, but because he wasn't actually using any feed, just making the motions as though he was tossing grain, no violation. And his limit was quickly reached.

That’s too comical! I hunt over a broken farm wagon, that has a big farming disk set up on top of it. Deer can’t see me until it is way too late.

I've long said the best camo when hunting on a farm was jeans, flannel shirt and a John Deere cap. Deer get used to seeing the farmer and pay him no attention.

Wild game that gets comfortable with the sight of a human is always going to end up dead. A lot of times not even by the original hunter.

They now make inflatable 'hunters" which you can put in your tree stand during the off season, for the same purpose.

I have had deer stand less than 50 yards away while a friend and I were out in a field burying corn as bait for hogs, had a dog with us too.

I didn’t train them, they just didn’t feel threatened by us because we never threatened them in the past.

Shouldn't train game to be comfortable with the sight of man. Jmo.

Virtually impossible to do anymore in most of the lower 48. Deer themselves have learned to live with man, one reason urbanized deer are compared to rats. Anyplace where quality deer management is practiced, deer regularly experience close encounters with man and get to walk away until they have enough horn to be considered "shooters". Add to that the baiting/feeding of said deer and they have become as domesticated as many other farm animals. Over the years I have watched big bucks hardly get outta the way when combining/picking corn, even tho one has been making enough noise to be heard a mile away for hours. Many are the local tales of farmers with their ol' trusty 30-30 in the cab of the combine going to a wardens auction to buy the combine back after someone shot a buck from the cab....or from the gravity box behind it. The law around her is anything that can be driven or towed, unless you have a disabled permit. That includes towers built on trailers or old junk cars, unless at least one wheel is completely removed, while you are actively using it.

My buddies sort of brought this upon themselves. They like to brag about their hunting at the local VFW and other saloons. Bragging annoys some people and that's probably how the warden found out about this unique deer blind. But the warden should've let this one alone. So it goes.

Depends on the state. NY says no loaded guns in vehicles, wardens would interpret this to include if you had a loaded rifle leaned up against a car. Confiscate your rifle and vehicle and try to get both forfeited.

I hunted out of a junk suburban for several years, I even had heat in it and it was nice to be able to open/close windows as needed as all the glass was good in it.

I used a bucket seat turned side ways, when sitting in it.
