Some folks like Yugo's because they are cheap too. Some folks like Mercedes. The Yugo can do everything the Mercedes can do, and a lot cheaper too. Think of all the extra miles you can drive on the extra gas money you will save. But almost none of us drove or drive Yugo's, why? And no I don't believe the Glock is the Yugo of guns. It is just an illustration.
I have a lot of guns, 21 1911's, and the only thing I ever HAD to change on a NEW gun was once, I had to change out the recoil spring. $7.95. Now to a glock owner that seems to be a lot of money, to me it is not, to get the gun running right.
My Glock 19 doesn't use one generation of magazines (I really can't remember, but I got rid of them. Frankly just as picky as some of my 1911's). My 34 is very reliable, and such. But in the end the Glock doesn't fit me. I am not that crazy of about the grip angle, personal fit, trigger, or magazine reliability of the Glock. And I don't care for any Glock not in 9mm. What advantages the Glock has, decay quickly when the glock isn't a 9mm. The notable exception to that may well be the Glock 20, which is to big for me, but seems to stand up.
I like SIG's, but of late their quality doesn't equal my West German 220's,225's,226's,228's, and my US made early 229. Not terrible, just not what they were. (by the way, I basically feel the same way about SIG's not in 9mm too. At least they redesigned their slide, but it is still an adaptation of the older SIG's.
By the way as to the slide lock, I find it absolutely no different than the Classic SIG slide lock problem. I "fly" my strong hand thumb, as I did when I shot SIG's for years.
I have Rugers, CZ's, Beretta's, etc...... And I have HK's. I don't particularly care for the USP version. I only have one, with a LEM trigger.
BUT!
I do like the new family. I have 2 HK45 LEM's, 1 HK45c LEM, 1 USP 45c LEM, 1 p2000sk LEM, 1 P30L, and 3 P30 LEM's.
I like the way the new HK's fit in my hands, particularly the P30 models. My P30L is the only model without the LEM trigger. The trigger is okay, but not great. But the advantage of having a weapon that can really fit my hand is, in my opinion, enormous.
I now CCW with one of the P30 LEM's. I use the Large side grip plates, and the medium back strap. I have large hands with short chubby fingers. The only other handgun that has come this close to fitting me properly is my 1911's, when I have set them up properly for me. The P30 frankly does this much better.
With enough trigger time, and actual shooting practice, folks can learn to adapt to almost any gun, whether it fits or not. But to have the gun actually fit you properly, will enhance your shooting ability quite a bit. Particularly a fighting gun. One reason the 1911 is still so strong and is in fact making a Renaissance today, IMNSHO, is that it has been the most adaptable fighting gun/platform for almost 100 years.
Even Glock via it's 4th Gen has paid tribute to the concept of the gun fitting the shooter/user. This new concept of interchangeable back straps etal is just manufacturers bearing witness to the need of the gun to fit the shooter. Finally!
It's just the 1911, and HK P30 do it better. Not really complicated. I have never cared for a Glock trigger, and as an old revolver shooter, I am a trigger slapper from way back. All my actual combat with a handgun was done with either a 1911 45acp, or S&W 38spl Victory model (rough finished model 10 for WW II).
That is why I have 4 P30's, 1 L model and 3 P30's (regulars, just for delineation). I is almost exactly the same size as my favorite SIG 228. And I really do like the LEM trigger.
Just my thoughts on the subject.
Good luck.
