After purchasing a used p30sk, I went to change out the grip panels, and found that once I had punched the pin through, the retaining hole on the left side broke. This is a really bad day because this part is PART of the frame...ie, no replacement parts. Upon further investigation, I was apparently not the 1st person to do this. It was obvious that someone else - a weaselly scab of a person - had superglued this same piece on once before (presumably hours before selling it).

My question...has anyone had experience with HK's customer service, and what are the chances of me getting this problem resolved?

O man! Sorry to hear this. The P30SK is one of my favorites. Hk customer service should do you right. I hope for the best for you.

Out of curiosity, do you have a picture?

As far as customer service goes, in the past, HK has had a reputation for poor customer service (deserved or undeserved), but my only interaction was good. Let us know how your experience goes.

HK has had pretty good CS for some time now. That said I wouldn’t expect much as technically it’s not a product fault. It sounds like somebody either slipped or used a way wrong punch and jacked up the frame. If I were to guess they will offer to sell you a new frame and it will probably be a couple bills.

That’s just a WAG on my part. Good luck.

I have a couple P30SK's and have not run into the problem you describe. I like my P30SK's.

I hope H&K customer service will provide a satisfactory solution.

This is my exact concern. I'm sure there's enough people out there who "didn't do it" and just want a new gun/gun part, so I would understand if the company was skeptical on such issues. Honestly, If they were willing to sell me a new frame, I'd take it. I can't seem to find one for sale online, or I'd just bite the bullet and go that route.

I have a hard time shaking the feeling that having two thin, integrated plastic loops to support both the backstrap and mainspring is something of a design flaw...but that's probably just me being a little bitter over the whole thing.

If anyone has a link to a new frame, let me know!

The gun feels so d@mn nice in my hand, I'm thinking that I'll take it to the range and blast away regardless. If she holds up, she holds up. If not, I'm in the same boat.

I seem to remember reading a fair bit back about somebody who boogered up, I believe an HK USP frame, and HK sold them a new frame. I THINK it was HK. May have been another brand. $225 sticks in my head for some reason but do t take any of this as gospel as I a shooting from the memory hip so to speak.

****, I didn't think about the serial number being on the frame :( That could get tricky.

And as embarrassed as I am, I did glue it back together. I'm off to the range in a couple hours, so fingers crossed!

This is my guess as well. Since the OP isn’t the original owner I doubt HK will replace it for free.

I had to contact HK CS once for an issue on my P30SK. It was a design flaw that did not cause any function problems. I emailed them, and within 1 minute they responded asking for my mailing address. New part was in the mail the same day.

Every situation is different of course but my experience has been positive.

It’s not a design flaw. It’s possible you got one that has a flaw in the material and was out of spec, but here’s what I think happened. The previous owner didn’t have the correct size punch. The one they used was too big, but he/she didn’t figure that out in time. They thought “What the hell? This damn pin is wedged in here too hard!” Then they wailed on it, broke it, and decided to unload a broken gun on someone who would never notice the broken part until money changed hands. It’s not a place or part anyone would check before buying.

Contact HK and tell them what happened. My guess is they’ll want you to send it in and they’ll move the slide assembly and working parts to a new frame. I’m guessing it won’t be cheap, but who knows what they’ll say.

Please keep us updated. I’m always interested in how CS is handled by any company.

I have never had that problem with my P30SK or other HKs. BTW I don't punch the pin through and I use a 3/32 inch punch or Glock tool and it comes out pretty easily just pushing it out.

Superglue/Epoxy/Whatever-wonder-glue won't hold - best solution is to heat carefully both surfaces with a soldering iron (simultaneously!), press them quickly and then straighten the hole with the appropriate size drill.

Well I heard back from HK.

My only option is to buy a new frame (which is what I expected), and unfortunately they won't pay for it (also what I expected).

The cost will be $40 for the frame, $65 labor, $30 shipping - leaving me with $135 out of pocket. Honestly, not bad at all. I could save the $65 and change it over myself, but for the sake of having it professionally done, I'll probably just let them do it. Plus that thought crossed my mind that if the individual who is carless/thoughtless enough to break a gun AND resell it, who knows what else may be going on under-the-hood.

I'd be nice if they paid the shipping like S&W or Ruger has done for me in the past, but all in all, I'm pleased.

Oh, and as a side note, I took it to the range and put 200 rounds through it w/out any failures...minor or otherwise. A testament to the quality of HK.

That’s a good point about possibly other bubba’d parts needing attention. All in all, sounds relatively reasonable from HK.

The back strap panel of P30 supports the mounting ears of the frame from both sides, thus making it highly unlikely to just "accidentally" break them. I strongly believe that Bubba expressed himself again in this case.

Did they seem surprised or did they say they had heard of the same thing happening before? Just curious

The gentleman I spoke with was very matter of fact. He gave me the options, and said to let him know what I'd like to do. Personally, I liked that. No BS, no judgement, just the facts. I sent an email on Saturday, and when I introduced myself he knew right away which gun I was referencing and laid everything out for me. I'm not sure how large their CS team is, but I didn't feel intimidated or put-out. Good people in my book.

I'll be sending it out tomorrow. I forgot to ask about the turnaround time, but I'm assuming the usual 4-6 weeks. It's a bummer, but I'm happy with HK making the best of a bad day.
